Thank you for joining us for Tribe's coverage of Sydney FC vs Melbourne City. If you want more action, that Melbourne Victory vs Adelaide United game kicks off shortly. I'll see you there!
Sydney FC lose for the first time in 10 matches, and it's a damaging loss to their play-off rivals. 2 - 2 at half-time, we all expected the home side to come out with the same intensity they showed at the end of the 1st half, but it just never really happened. The home team didn't manage to create any real clear-cut opportunities after the break, and it was City who took the lead for the 3rd and final time in the 61st minute, with Lopane firing an inch-perfect effort into the bottom-left corner of goal from 25 yards. After that, as Sydney tried to force the issue, Melbourne City pressed them into numerous errors, and really should've extended their lead, but it finishes 2 - 3, and a priceless victory for City, who go 3rd on 37 points, 7 points clear of 7th-placed Sydney, with only 5 games to go of the regular season. They only need 2 more wins to confirm their play-off spot. Sydney are still 3 points behind 5th (Melbourne Victory) and 6th place (Adelaide Utd), who face each other shortly. They're running out of matches!
You have to say, Sydney really haven't offered anything since the changes.

A heavy challenge inside the Sydney half, and Wong is booked.

Melbourne City press again, and they have the ball around the Sydney penalty area. They work the ball into the half-spaces so well, but can't find the final pass. Rather than force the issue, they bring the ball back to their defence, and keep possession. Clever game-management.
90+2'
Penalty shout for Sydney! Quintal has the ball near the byline, right of the penalty area. He cuts inside, enters the box, and looks to be pushed to the ground, but the referee isn't interested. VAR agree, and replays show that, though there was a push, it really wasn't enough to force him to the floor.
90+1'
Sydney can break, after they finally get through the relentless City press. Costa has the ball on the right, he plays it left, and the ball eventually comes to Quintal to the left of goal, but the defence has retreated well, and Sydney eventually concede a free-kick.
