Five wins and five clean sheets for Auckland FC as they roll along at the top of the A-League Men's ladder. Make sure you stay with us on Tribe for the remainder of tonight's A-League triple-header, as Melbourne City and the Wanderers have just kicked off at AAMI Park. It's been a pleasure bringing you all the action from this one at Mt Smart Stadium. For now, Harrison Ryburn signing out.
Next up for Auckland FC of course, is the NZ Derby with the Wellington Phoenix back here at Mt Smart Stadium next Saturday. They'll start as favorites given their recent form, but the Phoenix will be out for revenge after the result in Wellington a month ago. Meanwhile, the Jets return home for the first time since their opening game of the season with a clash against Adelaide United.
The Jets gave it a good go this afternoon, but to put it simply, they were simply overpowered. They started on the front foot and forced Paulsen into a good save early. For the remainder of the clash they were largely living off scraps though, and they appeared to be settling for a goalless draw as the game wound down into the final fifteen minutes. Dissapointing will be the fact they failed to score for the first time this season, but then again, it came against a side who haven't conceded once. Nevertheless there are positives Robert Stanton can take away from this trip to Auckland, and they'll look to build on it in coming weeks.
Another night of celebration in the City of Sails, as Auckland FC roll on with their incredible A-League Men's season. They were slow to start in the wet conditions, and were left frustrated for long periods with their inability to turn possession and dominance into goal-scoring chances. As the game opened up, they found a way through though, putting the game to bed with two late goals from Neydar Moreno and Francis De Vries. The defence also shone once more, breaking the record for the longest run without conceding a goal in the top tier of Australian football by making it five clean sheets in a row. The sky seems the limit for Steve Corica's side at the moment, and they only appear to be growing in confidence ahead of next weekend's Derby with the Phoenix.
Fulltime at Mt Smart Stadium and that's five clean sheets and five wins for Auckland FC, continuing their groundbreaking start to life in the A-League. It wasn't pretty for long periods of this one, but as was the case last time they were here at Mt Smart, it was the late show that got them over the line. A spectacular right-footed volley from Neydar Moreno gave the Black Knights the lead with seven minutes to go, before they sealed the deal with a second goal from Francis De Vries moments later, his first in the A-League on the week of his birthday. The team come across to celebrate with The Port at the final whistle, and Steve Corica's men push out to a four point lead at the top of the table as such, whilst the Jets remain near the foot with just one win from their first five.
90+7'
De Vries concedes a throw on the right, and Susnjar tries a long-range effort on his left foot. Paulsen sees it all the way though, and it's straight at the goalkeeeper for a comfortable save. That will be that.
90+6'
Cancar and Susnjar trade passes across the back as Auckland sit back and the game begins to wind down. It's all about preserving the hosts clean sheet record now, and Elliott comes in with a strong challenge on Taylor.
90+4'
The captain's armband has been passed on for a third time for Auckland FC, and is now around the arm of Smith. Just a few minutes for the hosts to hold onto now, and the ball bobbles around in midfield.
90+2'
SAVE! Auckland FC are in a mood now, and they go in search of more as we enter into injury-time. Gillion picks up the ball on the left wing, before cutting inside towards the top of the box. He opens up on his right foot for a shot, and powers it towards the bottom left corner, but Scott does brilliantly to get down and tip around the post for a corner.
