That wraps things up from this one, but thanks for joining us. This is Ryan Nixon (@NewYorkNixon) signing off.
For the Jets, the standouts were few and far between. Eli Adams and Thomas Aquilina were probably the pick of the starters, while they got good outings off the bench from Dane Ingham, Charles M'Mombwa and Will Dobson. Overall though, it was a sad, sad day at the office for a team that had been in such good form.
It was an impressive outing from Western, with Riku Danzaki, Noat Botic, Matthew Grimaldi and Rhys Bozinovski excellent, while Angus Thurgate was the usual engine in midfield to allow his front men to thrive. Matt Sutton, despite his own team's dominance, was still called into action on numerous occasions and did his part, while the defensive unit showed far greater desperation than their opposites, and will no doubt be stung by conceding the pair of second half goals.
The Jets rung the changes at halftime and were vastly improved in the second half, but were always unlikely to rally back into the game once Rhys Bozinovski added his second goal to make it 5-0. Newcastle did get themselves on the board through a couple of goals, but it was scant consolation as Michael Ruhs made it half a dozen.
An absolutely wild one in Newcastle, but it's a fourth straight win for Western United, and they continue to eat into Auckland's lead in the race for the Premier's Plate. They started this game with a hiss and a roar, perhaps anticipating some Jets lethargy following their hectic recent schedule, and were able to reap the rewards as a result. The first half was a clinic, as they ripped the Jets apart time and again, especially in the wide areas through Riku Danzaki and Noah Botic, and were out of sight by the break.

CHANCE! Now a late corner for Western United, as Ingham can't keep the ball in at the byline. It's whipped into the area by Najjarine, but James punches away. Russell then clips it back in towards Danzaki, who flicks his header wide!
90+2'
Timmins goes down inside the box looking for a penalty, as the Jets try to find themselves a third. He goes down way too easily though, and it's waved away.

The Jets win themselves a corner as we tick towards stoppage time, but it's headed away firmly.
