Victory were lucky to get away with a the draw this evening. They looked clunky on attack in the first half and lacked a finishing touch in front of goal. Fornaroli missed a first half penalty that hit the post! With the red card of Miranda in the second half, they were forced right on the back foot and were able to hold out the fast finishing Mariners to secure the draw. Velupillay was excellent in the first half but went missing in the second, while Machach was the best on show. He was electric with the ball at his feet and will be a danger throughout the season. They will take on Melbourne City next weekend.
The Mariners were on the back foot for big parts of the first half and early in the second half. At the back, Kaltak and Tapp were excellent shutting down the Victory attack. In the second half with the man advantage, the likes of Doka and McCalmont ran riot through the middle of the park! They lacked a bit of finishing and they will be ruing a couple of good chances that went begging late. They jump on plane in the morning and head to Shanghai for an AFC Champions match before heading to Adelaide next Saturday to take on United.
Two very contrasting halves in Gosford this evening. Victory had all the front foot ball in the first half but weren't able find the back of the net, while the red card to Miranda in the second half saw the momentum swing with the Mariners attacking for the final 30 minutes unable to find a goal!

Duncan takes an age on the goal kick and is shown the yellow. The Mariners try to work the ball back towards the middle of the park! Away it goes to the left with Mauragis but he can't do much with it as the final whistle goes!

Geria throws in from the right edge near halfway. The Mariners come away with it as Doka gets into the space created by Brandtman up the right edge edge. Back for Tapp as he puts Doka on the cut back again! The ball is back to the middle at the top of the box and McCalmont drives a ball over the bar!

Ngor has to track across to the left and give chase to a loose ball. He can't control it as Santos gets there and he goes to ground giving Victory the free kick on their right edge. Duncan takes his time coming across.

Brandtman swings another in from the right this time but it is headed away by Victory. McCalmont goes quickly on the throw in near halfway. Eames again finds Doka on the right as he cuts inside for Kaltak. Victory sit right back. McCalmont drops a ball over the top but it is headed clear once again.
