After the international break, the Wanderers face rivals Sydney FC, while Newcastle Jets take on the Central Coast Mariners. Thanks for joining Tribe for this coverage. Until next time, this is Sanil Karan signing off.
In the final stages, despite some late pressure from Newcastle, the Wanderers held firm to secure a well-deserved victory. Milanovic’s clinical performance stood out, and his hat-trick ensured the Wanderers claimed all three points and kept their momentum strong in the league. Newcastle, on the other hand, will need to regroup after a disappointing loss.
The Wanderers took control early in the match with Milanovic’s deflected free-kick giving them a first-half lead. Milanovic then doubled the advantage with a well-taken strike, and the Wanderers were in command by the break. Newcastle struggled to break down the opposition defense and failed to create clear-cut chances, as the Wanderers maintained a solid structure at the back. In the second half, Sapsford seemingly put the game out of reach with a brilliant solo effort, slaloming past defenders to finish in the top corner. However, Newcastle were given a lifeline when a penalty was awarded after a challenge in the box, and Grozos converted it to pull one back for the visitors. The goal gave them a brief hope of a comeback, but the Wanderers swiftly responded with a penalty of their own. Milanovic, who had been pivotal throughout, was fouled in the box and won a penalty for his side. The Wanderers’ star stepped up confidently and powered the ball into the bottom left corner, completing his hat-trick and sealing all three points for his team.
