Sydney FC have rescued a draw with two late goals away against the Newcastle Jets. Make sure you switch over for live coverage of the next match of this A-League double header, and it's a big one, as the Victory and the Wanderers do battle at AAMI Park. It's been a pleasure bringing you all the action from this one at McDonald Jones Stadium. For now, Harrison Ryburn signing out.
It's a short turnaround for both these clubs with fixtures in midweek. The Jets will make the trip to Suncorp to face Brisbane on Tuesday night, whilst Sydney are back at home on Wednesday to welcome the Perth Glory.
A really flat performance from Sydney for the most part, and they were a long way below the masterclass they put out in the Big Blue last week. Ufuk Talay's men looked lost and directionless for long stages, failing to get hold of the ball, and giving the Jets too much space by dropping deep into their own half. The coach looked livid with his men, but when their opposition dropped off and gave them room, Joe Lolley led the fightback. The Englishman came up with yet another special goal, whilst Anthony Caceres scored the dramatic late equaliser. Against better opposition they would have been put to the sword quite convincingly, and inconsistency remains a big problem for this side.
Another case of so close yet so far for the Jets this evening. They've continually put together some promising performances this season, before crumbling late and handing points away. This was another case, and Newcastle were the better side for much of the first half tonight with more possession and territory, but again struggled to create many clear-cut chances. When the contest opened up in the second stanza they found the goal to push further ahead, but Robert Stanton could be accused of being far too defensive with the two-goal lead, dropping his side deep and letting the Sydney attack run at them. The Jets just couldn't hold on even with five at the back, failing to shut down Joe Lolley, and conceding two late goals. On a positive note, it's a much-needed point, and their first draw of the season, but they'll still feel they let victory slip.
Fulltime at McDonald Jones Stadium and Sydney FC have come from two goals down to rescue a point against the Newcastle Jets. It was looking good for Robert Stanton's side when Clayton Taylor doubled their lead with twenty minutes to play. Closing in on their first home win of the season, the Jets crumbled though. Joe Lolley got one back with a moment of individual class, before Anthony Caceres rescued a draw for the Sky Blues with a sumptuous volley just before the final whistle. It wasn't pretty for Ufuk Talay's men, but they make it three games unbeaten, whilst Newcastle have now won just one of their last seven.

Wellissol attempts to break forward on another counter-attack, but he's held back by Zac De Jesus, and the substitute concedes a free kick. He picks up a yellow card too, allowing Newcastle to float the ball towards the box. King gets up to meet it though, nervously heading back into the hands of his keeper.

Vidic gets involved straight away, and tries a searching ball through the middle for Aquilina to run onto. It's got slightly too much on it though, and the ball rolls all the way into the path of Devenish-Meares to collect.
The Jets have capitulated here, and it's the travelling fans making all the noise again. Five minutes of injury-time, so there's still time for a winner.
