Remember when it was 2 - 1 at half-time? Adelaide United came storming back out, equalising after only 2 minutes, with Goodwin heading home an excellent Alagich cross from only a few yards. Then, in the 55th minute, Adelaide were awarded a penalty, after Machach was ruled to have handball-ed in the area, which Clough converted. Melbourne Victory huffed and puffed, but Adelaide were looking dangerous on the break. Then, the controversial moment in the 67th minute. A good run into the area by Arzani forced Kikianis into a last-ditch tackle, with the referee signalling a corner. Victory were furious, and when VAR suggested the referee watch the replay on the monitor, he overturned his decision, and awarded the penalty (despite replays showing Kikianis got a slight touch on the ball). After a lengthy delay, Arzani converted the penalty. With time running out for both teams, Arthur Diles made a couple of changes with 5 minutes to go, and the 2 substitutes combined to give Victory the lead in the 88th minute, after Rawlins pulled the ball back for Vergos to finish from close range. As Adelaide tried to equalise, Victory broke through Velupillay in the 90th minute. He played Vergos in on goal, calmly finishing for his 2nd goal, despite only being on the pitch for 4 minutes. 5 - 3 the final score, and what a match that was.
