That concludes our coverage of this match, but be sure to stay tuned to Tribe as both the Copa America and UEFA Euro knockout stages continue. This is Sanil Karan signing off for now.
Crepeau emerged as Canada's savior, stopping penalties from Wilker Angel and Jefferson Savarino, while Ismail Kone converted the decisive spot-kick that propelled Marsch's team into the semifinals, where they will face the reigning world champions. As Canada celebrate their triumph, Venezuela will be devastated by their cruel defeat.
Eager to secure victory, Canada came close to reclaiming the lead moments after conceding. Liam Millar, however, was left stunned as Romo managed to deflect his shot, denying Canada the opportunity to regain the lead. Despite their efforts, the Canadians couldn't break through Romo's defenses, leading to the match being decided by a penalty shootout.
Canada seemed poised to secure a semi-final spot in their debut Copa America appearance after a dominant first half. However, doubts about their ability to maintain their lead surfaced when Cyle Larin blasted a promising shot high into the stands despite having ample time to score. Larin's missed opportunity soon came back to haunt him, as Venezuela leveled the score just after the hour mark. Salomon Rondon capitalized on a long-range opportunity, spotting Maxime Crepeau out of position and lofting the ball over the keeper's head into an unguarded net.
KONE SENDS CANADA INTO THE SEMIS!!! His shot is towards the left, a little straight, but it doesn't matter because the keeper goes the other way.
