Ireland, who defended so well up until they were reduced to ten men, fell apart once Scales was given his marching orders. Already on a yellow, the Celtic defender took Bellingham down and from there, his side really struggled. England inflicted goal after goal in ruthless, quickfire fashion as only five minutes separated Kane's opener and the third, from Gallagher. Already assured of a relegation playoff by their third-place group finish, today will go down as a day to forget for Ireland.
What a second half from England as Lee Carsley signs off his spell as Interim Manager with a comfortable victory against Ireland. Admittedly it took Scales being sent off for England to click but click they most certainly did. Kane and Bellingham both really stepped up in the second half, creating the goals which were all clinically dispatched. Having been frustrated up until the opening goal, England maximised their man advantage to, ultimately, cruise past an Ireland side which didn't have a Plan B once they went behind. Carsley's main aim is achieved as England top the Nations League group ahead of Thomas Tuchel's arrival in January.
ENGLAND TOP THEIR NATIONS LEAGUE GROUP - England emphatically see off the ten-men of Ireland to secure their spot as group winners in the Nations League! It was delicately poised at half-time with England unable to break down a stout Irish defence. Yet, the game changed entirely when Scales, on a yellow card, brought down Bellingham as Ireland were reduced to ten early in the second half. Kane converted the subsequent penalty and the floodgates opened: Gordon and Gallagher registered their first England goals before Bowen and Harwood-Bellis added some gloss to the score with strikes off the bench.
