The draw leaves both teams tied at the top of the group with four points each, but Germany leads the table due to a better goal difference. Julian Nagelsmann's squad will next play against Bosnia in October, while the Netherlands will take on Hungary.
The Netherlands might have felt slightly unlucky to be trailing at halftime, but they quickly equalized after the break. Brian Brobbey continued to trouble the German center-backs, once again outmuscling and turning Nico Schlotterbeck in the box before setting up Denzel Dumfries for a goal. The match, which was turning into an exciting encounter, saw Kai Havertz miss a close-range chance, while ter Stegen made a crucial save against Ryan Gravenberch’s low shot from outside the area. As the game neared its end, clear-cut chances became scarce. Although Germany appeared more likely to score, both teams ultimately had to settle for a share of the points.
Germany began to assert themselves as the first half progressed. Deniz Undav equalized with his first international goal after a shot from Wirtz was saved by Bart Verbruggen. Joshua Kimmich then scored his first goal as captain, finishing off a brilliant team move that featured precise passing from David Raum and a slight deflected assist from Undav. By halftime, Germany had successfully turned the game around.
Germany's trip to Amsterdam marked their first significant challenge in this new era, especially with the Netherlands having won convincingly against Bosnia and Herzegovina in their last match. The Dutch wasted no time making an impact, with Tijjani Reinders finding the net just two minutes in, thanks to a well-timed through ball from Ryan Gravenberch. Despite Florian Wirtz’s close attempt and some solid defensive play, the Netherlands dominated the early stages.
AN ENTERTAINING DRAW IN AMSTERDAM!
90+3'
Havertz spots Beier inside the right side of the box, and Beier attempts to drive past Geertruida. Geertruida blocks the ball effectively, causing it to ricochet off Beier and out for a goal kick. Beier falls to the ground, appealing for a penalty, but the contact with Geertruida was minimal, and no penalty is awarded.
90+2'
Anton delivers a well-placed pass towards Raum on the left side of the box. Although van Hecke heads the ball away, Raum manages to collect it and deliver a cross towards the far right post. Unfortunately for Germany, there are no runners to meet the cross, and it goes to waste.
