Following Juventus' late defeat to VfB Stuttgart, Villa - at least for now - are top of the Champions League. After a fantastic and somewhat unlikely top four finish last season, aspirations in this competition were kept realistic. But three wins from three, clean sheets in all and a famous win against Bayern Munich, shows that Villa are proving their worth in Europe's premier competition. Consistency is certainly key, and the hallmark of any good side is whether they can continuously perform at the highest level. For now though, Villa keep going from strength to strength.
VILLA STAY FLAWLESS IN EUROPE! Aston Villa remain perfect in the Champions League and are yet to concede a goal. Unai Emery is taking this football club to some special places and is delivering some standout performances. They overpowered a valiant Bologna as McGinn and Duran scored the all-important goals. From that moment they were so comfortable, and Bologna could not get on the score sheet, despite again creating their fair share of chances. Their tough start to the Champions League continues.

CHANCE! Ramsey should add a third as he races past a depleted Freuler. Bologna are caught with men forward and Ramsey is able to run all to way into the box, but he side foots an effort straight at the goalkeeper. This scoreline does not flatter Villa at all.

CHANCE! Villa almost wrap it up. Ramsey does every so well to trap the ball on the left and wriggles his way towards the byline. He hammers a cross into the area which is spilled by Skorupski. Watkins is in close attendance but the Bologna defenders scramble to clear their lines.

CHANCE! Bologna almost set up the grand finish there. Beukema meets the corner with a firm header at the near post and Martinez can only stand watch as the ball cannons back off the woodwork. The Argentine wasn't helped by his defenders mind you, who were static.

A great switch of play from Posch finds substitute Iling-Junior on the left. He breezes past Konsa, who just gets caught under the ball. The cross is flashed into the area, but Carlos is alert to the danger who hacks the ball out for a corner.

Villa are seeing this game out like a team that are playing full of confidence and assuredness. Bologna enjoying lots of the ball still but aren't making any inroads.
