Scotland come away with the bonus point as well as the win here today thanks to their five tries, and they'll be needing some confidence and momentum from this clash to carry through to next weekend with them as they take on Ireland here at Murrayfield. Italy are back at home in Rome next weekend against a Welsh side who are at their absolute lowest right now.
One area it appeared as if Italy were dominant was at scrum time. They won a penalty at one point thanks to a huge second shove forcing the Scottish front row to pop up under the pressure, and seemed to have the Scots scrambling to get the ball out fast enough to not concede any further penalties at the set piece. Both sides seemed keen to play quick ball off the lineouts, with the couple of maul attempts not really proving too fruitful with the exception of Scotland's maul right on the 5 that resulted in Ben White's try.
Italy seemed to struggle a lot more with ball in hand. They couldn't string together the phases the Scots were, coughing the ball up in some big tackles or losing it on the floor as the home side got over the breakdown. When they did manage some phase play they weren't really able to get themselves on the front foot, finding themselves playing a very lateral game as a result of a strong defensive effort. For the most part they had to rely on errors from the Scots to give them an opportunity to get down into the right areas of the pitch and onto the front foot.
Scotland played an excellent game when they had ball in hand. Some ridiculous offloading and stepping put huge pressure on the Italian defence, making great metres and getting themselves down into the right areas of the pitch as a result. Their back three in particular were lethal with ball in hand, with Graham and Van der Merwe setting up a couple of tries between them and Blair Kinghorn steady as a rock under the high ball. The biggest issue for Scotland in open play was some messy passing from Russell, whose usual brilliance wasn't quite coming off as a couple of his offloads failed to go to hand. Hopefully just a case of rust for the Scotsman!
It was nerve-wracking at times for Scotland, but they come away with the win! A hat-trick of tries from Huw Jones was enough to put them over the top after Italy clawed back from 14-0 down to draw level at 19-all early in the second half. Scotland struck first early on, but after adding a second try just minutes later they seemed to sort of step off the gas a little, and Italy were only too happy to take the opportunity to build a bit of momentum. They stayed within reach on the scoreboard in the first half through penalties, and then crossed the chalk for what would be their only try of the match shortly after the start of the second half. The momentum seemed to be all with Italy at that point, but it also appeared to be a wake up call for the home side!

Tapped and sent into the stands for the final whistle!

Lineout set up halfway up the 22. Popped off the top from Ruzza, and it's Menoncello who barges his way up into contact off the back of the set piece. Slow ball on the floor though.. And that's been turned over by the home side! Scotland get the penalty as Horne is interfered with at the back!

Loose ball tapped off the top from Ruzza, and Garbisi has to clean up on the floor. Through the midfield out to the right before the shift back on the inside again. Long pass over the top to the right wing, and then again back to the midfield. Making no ground here, are the Azzurri, but Scotland are pinged for a late tackle.

Scrum down at the front, so Horne is told to play it. He goes openside to Russell who clears to touch up towards the 10.
