Italy will be elated at the win, because it only gets tougher for them from here! They have another home clash next weekend when they come up against France at the Stadio Olimpico here in Rome, while Wales are back on home soil in Cardiff next weekend against a strong Irish outfit.
The home side looked strong in the set pieces as well. Wales were pinged over and over again for collapsing at scrum time, winning just one of their own late in the spell with the replacements on the park. Italy also got themselves up quite a few times to disrupt the Welsh lineout. Both sides set some rolling mauls off the set piece, but it was Wales who really managed to use them well, scoring a try and a penalty try in the last 10 minutes as a result of a massive drive that put huge pressure on the Italian defence.
Italy were dangerous with ball in hand today. They spread the ball around well and used their kicking to get down into the right areas of the pitch with some great chasing putting huge pressure on the Wales backline. And the pressure resulted in plenty of knocks from Wales both under the high ball and in the contact zone, putting Italy on the front foot down in Welsh territory with ball in hand.
But it was too little, too late from Wales. They claimed the restart down inside their 22, and played 90 seconds with ball in hand through phase after phase without making any ground before Italy were able to force the penalty and finish the game. The Azzurri will be breathing a sigh of relief to have come away with the win after those last 10 minutes, but Wales will be ruing so many missed opportunities in that clash.
Italy struck first early on through the boot of Tommy Allan, but Wales were able to hit back with a penalty of their own next. But it was one-way traffic from there. Ange Capuozzo went over for the Azzurri's only try with 20 minutes gone, and Allan added points off the boot to take a 13-point lead into the break. There were a couple of misses from both Allan and Page-Relo after the break before Allan raised the flags again, and at that point it looked like Italy were free and clear. But in the final 10 minutes Wales finally seemed to wake up, scoring a great try off the base of a rolling maul and then adding another through a penalty try with just over a minute to play as they heaped the pressure on Italy's defence.
Italy manage to escape the late scare to win in Rome! And it's yet more misery for the Welsh outfit and Warren Gatland as the side rack up their 14th consecutive loss in international rugby. Italy had control of almost the entire match, with just the last few minutes going the visitors' way as they appeared to finally realise they were in the midst of yet another loss on the world stage.

Tapped and hoofed into the stand by Garbisi to bring about the final whistle!
80+1'
Clock in the red now, and for all the phases Wales have played since the restart they have made no metres... Italy over the breakdown on the right wing, and they have the penalty!
80'
Deep restart onto Wales inside their 22. Quick hands through the hands to the right wing, but Wales are still camped down in their own red zone. Back through to the left wing where they work it almost up to the 22 line. shift back to the inside where Williams is caught behind the goal-line now. Edwards on the right wing makes a metre or two. Back again on the inside for Smith who is stopped short on his carry.
