Up Next - Both have midweek Carabao Cup quarterfinals to contest with Southampton playing Liverpool here on Wednesday night before Spurs host Manchester United a night later. Saints are then at Fulham in the league next Sunday with Spurs hosting Liverpool later that same day.
For Spurs, an important and professionally-won three points. Maddison and Son were both back to their best with the former scoring twice and the latter notching up a goal and two assists in his 45 minutes on the field. Ange Postecoglou will be as pleased with the clean sheet as Dragusin and Gray comfortably contained Armstrong up top. The loss of Udogie to injury is the only sour note on an otherwise perfect night for Spurs.
If he wasn't under pressure before this match, then Russell Martin will definitely be following that hammering this evening. Southampton played like a team stripped of any confidence and Spurs ruthlessly exploited the many openings presented to them. Aribo, in midfield, at least made his presence felt with some much-needed carries and driving runs but Southampton's first half was simply disastrous. Not the performance nor result they would have wanted as the festive run of fixtures approaches.
FIVE-STAR SPURS HOCKEY SOUTHAMPTON TO RAMP UP THE PRESSURE ON RUSSELL MARTIN - The game was over, as a contest, in the first half when Spurs carved through Southampton at will to score five and pile the misery on Saints' and their under-pressure manager, Russell Martin. It took Tottenham less than a minute to break through as Maddison tucked away an early opener. Two goals in two minutes from Son and Kulusevski took the game away from Southampton who promptly conceded another when Sarr stroked home a fine finish. Before the break, Maddison added his second of the match and although Southampton improved in the second half, it was far too little, too late. They remain marooned to the bottom of the table while for Spurs, this is a timely three points.
90+2'
Forster, on the edge of the box, picks out Gray with a short pass. He finds his defensive partner, Dragusin. The Romanian passes right to Porro as Spurs calmly pass the ball between their defenders in their own final third.

CHANCE - Sarr barges Archer off the ball on halfway. Sarr spreads play to the left wing where Werner speeds into vacant space. Werner's chipped ball across the six-yard box is nodded over the crossbar, from close-range, by Johnson!
89'
Werner, driving down the left wing, uses Dorrington on the overlap. Dorrington's delivery into the box is hoofed clear by Walker-Peters, on the left-hand edge of the penalty area.
