Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as Arsenal laid down a marker by destroying Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium in the Premier League, today: I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage: I’ve been Rory Morrow, and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live text commentary!
Up Next - Different Cup competitions, for both. Arsenal travel to St James’ Park on Wednesday night for the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final with Newcastle United, aiming to overturn a 2-0 deficit. They then have next weekend off due to their FA Cup elimination by Manchester United in the third round. Man City are in the FA Cup’s fourth round and travel to League One side, Leyton Orient, on Saturday lunchtime.
These two teams have, of course, developed a growing rivalry in recent times. Today, whether it was Arsenal desperately wanting a win over City (Having finished second to them in the league for the last two years and been taken apart themselves, 4-1, at the Etihad Stadium, two seasons ago) or the visitors' every mistake being exploited, Arsenal did what City have done to so many teams, over so many years: They bullied them, from start to finish, kept possession efficiently and controlled the game's tempo, even at 1-1. City's inability to respond to any of the adversity that came their way in the second half is alarming for them as, like last season when City pipped Arsenal to the title, The Gunners emerge unbeaten, with four points, from their games against Pep Guardiola's team.
As for Man City, well. Defensive deficiencies is underselling it today: They were woeful at the back, daftly giving possession away for Odegaard's opener: From there, they were chasing the game. At 1-0, they responded and were only thwarted by the heroics of Raya, Haaland's eventual leveller, a deserved one, on the balance of play at that stage. But after that... City just capitulated. Arsenal ran in goal after goal with Pep Guardiola and his players powerless to prevent the wave of red shirts attacking them. The damage this might do to confidence is anyone's guess but what's certain is the indelible dent it does to City's top-four-chase, as their goal difference takes an almighty hit. Based on this display, Real Madrid will be licking their lips ahead of the Champions League playoff: City simply must improve or this patchy season could yet veer even further off-script.
Absolutely scintillating that, from Arsenal, this afternoon. Having been accused in some parts of becoming overly reliant on set-pieces for goals, Arsenal let rip today with five fantastic strikes: All from open play and all admittedly aided by abysmal Man City defending. Every single Arsenal player worked their socks off: The ferocious pressing was led from the front with Rice, who got two assists, dominating the midfield. Raya, in goal, made some stunning interventions at 1-0, more than playing his part. Havertz, who ends up with an assist and a goal, deservedly got on the scoresheet with a clinical strike whilst Trossard and Martinelli's speed posed problems, throughout. Capping it off was Nwaneri, who scored a replica of his beauty in midweek: How Arsenal fans will have loved seeing two home grown youngsters be entrusted today by Mikel Arteta, with both Nwaneri and Lewis-Skelly excelling! Can Arsenal maintain this momentum? They'll take some stopping, if they can.
ARSENAL HIT FIVE IN A STATEMENT WIN - Manchester City have been hammered, absolutely hammered, at the Emirates Stadium this afternoon as a hungry Arsenal tear them to shreds in the second half! The day began badly for City when, ominously, Odegaard opened the scoring, with less than two minutes elapsed. In fairness, City rallied with Raya producing several superb saves to preserve their lead. City did draw level when Haaland headed home Savinho's cross. But then, Arsenal, as if riled by conceding, roared into life again: Partey instantly restored their lead and, shortly after, young, Lewis-Skelly made it three with a lethal finish. Man City were stunned and salt was rubbed into gaping wounds when Havertz went through to add a fourth. Then, Nwaneri, off the bench, capped off an excellent cameo with the game's last act: A sizzling, wonderful fifth goal that means Arsenal stay second, moving back to within six points of Premier League leaders, Liverpool.

NWANERI CURLS IN A STUNNING FIFTH - The cherry on top of Arsenal's cake! Rice creates space for the substitute, as receiving possession from Calafiori, he brilliantly switches play with a super, diagonal ball out to the right wing. Nwaneri controls nonchalantly, dribbles inside, away from a statuesque Gvardiol. On the edge of the box, Nwaneri then curls a stunning strike into the bottom left corner to add Arsenal's fifth: Just like his goal against Girona last time out, it's a peach and this kid is some talent!

Nwaneri, holding up the ball smartly, plays a perfectly weighted ball into Timber's overlapping drive down the right side of the box. Timber's blasted ball across the six-yard area goes untouched, with Ortega looking stranded in City's goal!
