This marks the final match of WXV 1 in 2024 for both sides. The USA finishes with a 0-3 record, having also lost to England and France, while Ireland concludes their campaign with a 2-1 record after defeating New Zealand in the opening round, falling to Canada, and now securing a hard-fought win over the Eagles. For now, that rounds things out in this one. Thanks for tuning into Tribe's coverage of WXV 1.
Standout performances came from Ireland’s Erin King and Aoife Wafer, who were both instrumental in the forward battle, while Moloney's crucial try gave them the lead late in the game. For USA, Hope Rogers was a standout, scoring two tries in her 50th cap, and the Eagles' pack impressed with their physicality. However, their inability to convert pressure into points and costly discipline issues ultimately cost them.
The final blow for the USA came when Rachel Johnson was sent to the sin-bin for a shoulder charge in the build-up to Murphy-Crowe's try. The Eagles were left to play out the closing minutes down on numbers, and while they continued to fight, Ireland’s defence held firm, securing the 12-point victory. Ireland's resilience and discipline proved decisive, as they capitalised on USA’s mistakes and controlled the final quarter of the game.
As the game wore on, Ireland's discipline and control paid off. In the 71st minute, Rachel Ehrecke was sent to the bin for another deliberate knockdown, and just two minutes later, Ireland's relentless forward pressure led to Cliodhna Moloney grounding the ball after a well-executed maul. The TMO confirmed the try, putting Ireland ahead for the first time in the match. Ireland wasn't finished, as Amee-Leigh Murphy-Crowe added another try in the 76th minute after a swift backline move, capping off a strong second half for the Irish.
The second half began with the USA applying pressure, but they struggled to capitalise on their early opportunities. Despite forcing Ireland to make numerous tackles, the Eagles couldn't add to their lead. Ireland weathered the storm and began to claw their way back into the contest, with Wafer and King continuing to stand out in the physical exchanges. A key moment came in the 64th minute when USA's Tahlia Brody was penalised for a deliberate knockdown, leading to a penalty try and a yellow card. This allowed Ireland to level the scores, and with the Eagles down to 14 players, Ireland seized momentum.
Ireland pull off an impressive comeback to beat the USA by 12 points in Vancouver, overcoming a 7-point halftime deficit to secure a well-deserved win. The first half was closely contested, with both teams showing plenty of intent. USA took the lead early on as Hope Rogers powered over from close range in the 18th minute. Ireland responded through Erin King's quick tap and smart finish to level the scores, but just before half time, Rogers struck again for USA, crashing through two defenders to give the Eagles a 7-point advantage at the break.

O'Brien sends a long kick downfield that is carried back by Mataitoga. Pick and go for Sagapolu in centre field, with the ball then sent left for Kelter to carry. Next to have a go is Cantorna but she is met well, with Ireland winning the penalty for not releasing!

Mataitoga attacks the line but she loses it forward in contact for an Irish scrum feed on their 10m line. It's a stable scrum as Wafer breaks off the back to carry. Next to have a go is Moloney, working it towards halfway.
