Walker finds himself in an advanced position and is given the opportunity to cross from the right. His low cutback takes a couple of deflections then ends up dropping at the feet of a player in Brentford colours.

GOOD CHANCE! Very nearly the clincher! Gvardiol goes on a long, mazy run forward towards the Brentford penalty area then has the presence of mind to spot the unmarked Savinho to his right. The Brazilian is found, but he can't guide his shot beyond the onrushing Flekken and the visitors somehow survive. 

KICK-OFF! Away we go again, but not before a double Manchester City change. Rodri and Josko Gvardiol enter the fray, in place of the yellow-carded Mateo Kovacic and Rico Lewis. 

So far, so good for Brentford. Thomas Frank's Bees have won three of their four games in all competitions to start the season, their only defeat coming at Anfield in Arne Slot's first competitive home game in charge of Liverpool. On that day they had their chances too, and it seems the departure of Ivan Toney to Saudi Arabia in a £40m move hasn't had the catastrophic effect on performance and morale that many onlookers expected. Early days, of course, but in Bryan Mbeumo and Yoane Wissa, they have two forward players who continue to rise to the Premier League challenge - and remember that summer signing Igor Thiago is still to return at the end of the year following the knee injury he suffered on his debut in pre-season. Any kind of result would be huge for Brentford this afternoon - but how will they fare?

WOW! BRENTFORD LEAD INSIDE 30 SECONDS! The Etihad Stadium falls into stunned silence! Out of nowhere, Ajer's deep cross from the right is headed back across the face of the six-yard box by Lewis-Potter. Stones and Ederson get in each other's way trying to deal with the threat, the wayward clearance loops up into the air and Yoane Wissa is in the right place to nod home from close range. Just 22 seconds on the clock!

So cool from Flekken, who calmly plays the ball away from his own six-yard box with De Bruyne coming in on the slide. He barely even broke sweat!

CLOSE! This time Walker does shoot! Having drifted into the middle of the pitch, Manchester City's right-back receives the ball and takes aim from outside the area. It's a half-yard from finding the top left corner but instead ripples the roof of Flekken's goal. 

Four successive Premier League titles. League leaders after the opening three games. The team to beat. Pep Guardiola's Manchester City have been flawless to date, picking up nine points from a possible nine. And while their well-documented court case, regarding 115 alleged breaches of the Premier League's financial rules, prepares to take centre stage next week, the focus, for the next 24 hours at least, remains focused on matters on the pitch. Only once before has a team won their opening four games of a Premier League season on six separate occasions. Chelsea hold that record, but can Guardiola's seemingly unstoppable force replicate that today?

BLOCKED! Grealish can't quite find a way through a cluster of bodies inside the penalty area. A Manchester City corner from the right just evades Akanji but not Grealish, whose powerful effort goalwards is charged down by a Brentford player back inside their own box. 

Van den Berg is put under pressure inside his own half by Haaland and does just enough to get the ball away for a team-mate before being closed down. As the last man, he's the last player you'd want to be bearing down on you!

A touching moment before kick-off as the players gather around the centre circle to remember former Manchester City boss Sven-Göran Eriksson with a minute's applause. 

Manchester City haven't settled at all here, but still Grealish does really well to win a corner for his side down the left. The ensuing delivery is a little too deep for everyone in the middle and Savinho, despite his best efforts, can't keep the ball in play at the back post.

Now Manchester City click into gear in an attacking sense, but the right-wing cross from Savinho evades his team-mates and the opportunity comes to nothing. 

CLOSE! Turnaround almost complete! Most inside the Etihad edge towards the edge of their seat as De Bruyne cuts onto his left foot, 20 yards from goal, before arrowing a shot just beyond the right-hand post. Flekken seemed confident that he had his angles covered, but it wasn't too far away!

MAN CITY TEAM NEWS: Pep Guardiola makes four changes to his starting XI following their 3-1 win at West Ham before the international break. Kyle Walker, John Stones, Ilkay Gundogan and Savinho come into the team, replacing Ruben Dias, Josko Gvardiol, Bernardo Silva and Jeremy Doku. Erling Haaland was a question mark to feature today following the passing of a close family friend during the week, but the Norwegian striker will lead the line for City.  

GOOD SAVE! Another crucial intervention from Brentford's number one! Walker ignores the crowd's clamour to shoot and instead slides a low ball into the penalty area towards Gundogan. He nonchalantly tees up Haaland, whose powerful first-time effort with his right foot is pushed over the bar by Flekken. 

Time is ticking away for Brentford, who are struggling to get the ball up to the right end of the pitch. Another decision goes against them, Collins bringing down Gundogan. 

CHANCE! Flekken tries to calmly pass out from the back again, but this time he gets it all wrong and fires the ball straight at Savinho. The Brazilian has too many players blocking his route to goal, so City are forced to bide their time and slow things down.

A pass into the Manchester City half has Schade interested, and Akanji does just enough to race back, get a toe in and deal with the threat before having his pocket picked. For all their attacking prowess, the home side have looked more than a little suspect at the other end today. 

An enthralling opening half comes to a close at the Etihad, with Manchester City taking a 2-1 lead into the break. Remarkably, they trailed inside 22 seconds as Yoane Wissa headed home after a mix-up at the back between Ederson and John Stones. Since then, the home side have been the better team and deservedly lead at the break, with their main man in front of goal doing the damage. Erling Haaland's first, a deflected effort into the far corner, levelled the scores, then the Norwegian shrugged off Ethan Pinnock and calmly lobbed Mark Flekken 12 minutes later to complete the turnaround. Brentford have still had their chances and, while it remains a one-goal game, will still harbour ambitions of taking something with them back to West London. What a second half we could have in store!

A couple of changes for Brentford as they search for a leveller. On come Mads Roerslev and former Liverpool man Fabio Carvalho, to replace Kristoffer Ajer and Vitaly Janelt. 

It doesn't look like Wissa will be able to continue. There's plenty of movement on the Brentford bench as they plot their next move here.

The free-kick breaks for Norgaard inside the box, but he's ushered towards the byline by some excellent defending and loses his footing. The away fans behind the goal scream for a foul, but the referee points for a goal-kick instead.

OFF THE POST! So nearly another hat-trick for Haaland! Teed up in the middle of the penalty area, the Manchester City striker rattles the woodwork with Flekken beaten all ends up. Grealish tees up the Norwegian on the follow-up, but there's a defender in the way of his shot on goal. 

Brentford are really penned in at the moment. They've barely put a foot wrong so far but still find themselves a goal down heading towards the break. That's what Manchester City can do to teams. 

CHANCE! A big let-off for Ederson as his attempted clearance is charged down by an onrushing Brentford player. The ball bounces the way of Damsgaard 25 yards from goal, but he's a little indecisive in possession and the visitors are forced to slow things down. 

ANOTHER FOR HAALAND! Manchester City are ahead, and who else? It's as direct a goal as you're ever likely to see from a Pep Guardiola side, as Ederson punts the ball forward for Erling Haaland from inside his own penalty area. The powerful Norwegian uses his body to brush off the attention of Pinnock and position himself goal-side of his man. He enters the penalty area and waits for Flekken to commit himself before calmly dinking it over the goalkeeper, doubling his and Manchester City's tally for the afternoon!

GREAT SAVE! You expect the net to ripple, but no! Haaland is found once more, and this time he arrows a left-footed shot across the face of goal after escaping the clutches of the nearest Brentford defender. Flekken continues to keep his side in it, getting down low to the shot and coming up with a strong left hand to turn it away.  

CHANCE! The hosts are at sixes and sevens defensively as Mbeumo is almost found in-behind. The Brentford forward enters the box, brings the ball under his spell and tries to work room to shoot as he rounds Ederson. Credit to Lewis, who sticks to his man brilliantly and gets a foot in to clear before Mbeumo could pull the trigger.

BRENTFORD TEAM NEWS: Thomas Frank makes two changes to his side as Sepp van den Berg and Keane Lewis-Potter return to their starting XI. Kevin Schade and Mathias Jensen both started the club's 3-1 win over Southampton last time out, but the former drops to the bench and the latter is absent from the Bees' matchday squad entirely.

Carvalho bursts forward down the Brentford left and goes to ground under pressure from Walker. The referee deems the challenge to be illegal, giving the visitors a perfect opportunity to flood the box for this free-kick. 

Hello, and welcome to Tribe's live coverage of this Premier League clash between champions Manchester City and Brentford! My name is James Messenger, and I'll be guiding you through all the action as it happens. 

PENALTY APPEAL! Poor from Savinho. Up against three Brentford defenders down the right side of the box, he jinks between two of them and throws himself to ground under very little contact. The referee doesn't buy his penalty appeals and shows the Manchester City winger a booking for simulation. 

CHANCE! Manchester City are caught fast asleep as Brentford make headway down the right. Mbeumo tees up Norgaard, whose deep cross is headed goalwards by Pinnock. The ball appeared to strike the top of the bar on its way behind, and Ederson can't quite believe it as the referee signals for a corner.

CHANCE! A real opportunity spurned by Brentford! Some quick passing through the lines culminates in Mbeumo being found in a pocket of space in the middle of the Manchester City half, with options right and left. He opts for the latter and slides in Lewis-Potter down the side of the penalty area. Schade screams for the delivery. Mbeumo cries for the cutback. In the end, Lewis-Potter's poor cross evades both of them and sails out of play on the near side.

Yoane Wissa is helped from the field by Brentford medical staff, to be replaced by Kevin Schade. 

Savinho assesses his options down the right flank then opts to roll the ball back for De Bruyne. The Belgian looks to deliver with a first-time cross near the corner of the box, but Pinnock is in the perfect place to head the ball to safety. 

It almost feels like Manchester City want to take the sting out of this game, with Brentford showing signs of life approaching the hour mark. You sense that a third goal for the hosts would kill off their opponents, but it's all quite pretty and patient from the home side for the time being. 

GREAT SAVE! Flekken to Brentford's rescue! A rare defensive lapse allows Grealish to float into a small pocket of space, and De Bruyne picks him out on the edge of the box. The England international takes a touch then tries to find the bottom right corner, only to see his curling effort expertly turned round the post by Flekken. 

Stones taking one for the team there! Having let Carvalho spin beyond him inside the Brentford half, the defender has no choice but to drag back at his man and take the booking. 

Pep Guardiola turns to his bench again, sending on Bernardo Silva and Ruben Dias to replace Jack Grealish and John Stones. Brentford also make a change as Yehor Yarmoliuk replaces Mikkel Damsgaard.

CLOSE! That would've been special! Savinho's search for a first Manchester City goal continues, despite his best efforts. The talented youngster glides inside from the right, uses the forward run of Gundogan to make space for himself and takes aim inside the area, sending his shot narrowly beyond the left-hand post.

Patient approach taken by the home side as their latest corner is played short as they probe left and right, in search of the right opportunity to deliver. The ball ends up being swung into the mix by De Bruyne, but it's too close to Flekken and the Brentford goalkeeper gathers. 

LEVEL AT THE ETIHAD! Erling Haaland's fine form in front of goal continues! After a difficult week personally, the Norwegian comes up with a crucial contribution for his side, latching onto De Bruyne's deflected pass inside the penalty area. With plenty still to do, Haaland fires across the face of Flekken, and a nick off a Brentford leg sends it out of the goalkeeper's reach as the ball finds the left-hand corner of the goal. 

CHANCE! Now it's Savinho's turn to try his luck for City. The tricky Brazilian receives possession from Gundogan and shifts onto his left foot, taking aim from the edge of the box. it takes a deflection which removes lots of sting from the shot, enabling Flekken to make a comfortable save. 

CHANCE! Manchester City sense blood here! They push forward again, and some lovely work in centre-field leads to Grealish being found in space down the left-hand side of the box. He tries to square it for Savinho, and it takes a last-gasp clearance from Norgaard to turn the ball over his own bar.

CHANCE! Excellent defending! Like any world class centre forward, Haaland's face lights up as De Bruyne sends in a deep cross from the right. It's a good leap from the Norwegian at the back post, but Van den Berg gets to the ball ahead of him and nods it behind for a corner.

Manchester City's perfect start continues!

De Bruyne is doing an excellent job of trying to guide his team back into this contest. This time he exchanges passes with Savinho down the right-hand side of the Brentford penalty area. In comes a low cross from the Belgian, and Pinnock shins the ball behind for a corner.

GOOD SAVE! Better from Brentford! The Bees look to capitalise as Manchester City struggle to get the ball out of their own defensive third. It comes left for Lewis-Potter, who skips inside beyond the initial challenge then fires goalwards, forcing Ederson to fist the ball away at his near post.

Four wins from four for Pep Guardiola's men, who were forced to do it the hard way against a Brentford side that never gave up! The visitors stayed in the game until the very end, thanks in large part to some heroic goalkeeping from Mark Flekken. But ultimately, they couldn't do enough to breach the Manchester City backline. It's 12 points from 12 for City, who move three clear at the top of the division for now, after fellow unbeaten starters Liverpool fell to a shock defeat to Nottingham Forest at Anfield. UEFA Champions League action is next on the agenda for City, while Brentford host Leyton Orient in the Carabao Cup in midweek. 

GOOD SAVE! Another fine stop from Ederson! Brentford almost double their advantage as Mbeumo's inswinging corner from the right is swept goalwards by Collins on the volley. It's straight at Ederson, who has a cluster of bodies ahead of him and doesn't see it until late, but the goalkeeper still makes a reflex stop low to the ground before the ball is scrambled away. 

CHANCE! Excellent awareness from Ederson to prevent the Brentford threat! It's a simple, slick counter-attack from the visitors as Wissa plays the ball wide for Mbeumo then continues his run forward. The return pass is played infield, but Wissa is thwarted by the Manchester City goalkeeper, who rushes out of his area to clear.

Collins concedes a free-kick and doesn't take too kindly to the decision, remonstrating his way into the referee's book. 

The afternoon's first yellow card goes the way of Kovacic. The Manchester City man slides in forcefully to take man and ball near halfway, but it's the follow-through on Wissa which leads to yellow. The Brentford man looks in a little bit of discomfort too. 

As we approach the final 25 minutes, you sense that further Brentford changes might not be too far away. The hosts are playing with real swagger at the moment, starving their opponents of possession for the most part.

A late change for the hosts as Matheus Nunes replaces Savinho, who seems to have picked up a lower leg issue. 

Out come the teams! After the pre-match pleasantries, it'll be time for kick-off at the Etihad...

CLOSE! That was the moment! Brentford pass their way forward quickly and find Mbeumo, who is denied room to shoot but does at least manage to tee up the newly-introduced Yarmoliuk. He tries his luck from the edge of the box but drags his low shot agonisingly wide of the left-hand post.
