Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as Manchester City returned to winning ways with Kevin De Bruyne shining as they saw off Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium tonight; I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage; I’ve been Rory Morrow, and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live text commentary!
Up Next - Quick turnarounds for both teams as they’re back in league action on Saturday, both on the road. Man City are at Selhurst Park to play Crystal Palace whilst Forest make the short trip across the city to take on Manchester United in their second Manchester fixture of the week in the teatime encounter.
For Nottingham Forest, a third defeat in four games. Albeit, those came against Newcastle, Arsenal and tonight a City side who were on it from the get-go. Forest were more adventurous (or perhaps allowed to be) than they were in defeat at Arsenal with Gibbs-White and Jota Silva spurning chances before Wood, the man they'd want a big chance to fall to, wasted their best scoring opportunity of the night. That was a pivotal moment as De Bruyne doubled City's advantage a minute later. To their credit, Forest did not fold (far from it) in the second half and their season will not hinge on these sorts of games.
An important result for Manchester City, who'll be all too mindful of the points they've dropped in the past month. Going forwards, anyway, they were back to their best tonight; swarming all over Nottingham Forest from kick-off with De Bruyne at the heart of everything good. The Grealish experiment, him in a deeper midfield role alongside Gundogan, worked wonderfully tonight with Grealish prominent in setting up a lot of City's attacks, will this be a long-term way to integrate Grealish into the team more permanently? Despite Haaland not scoring, it'll reassure some City fans to see the likes of Silva, De Bruyne and Doku each net to reduce any sense of reliance on Haaland, who continues to get on the end of chances and go very close. A good win and one they badly needed.
MAN CITY RETURN TO WINNING WAYS - A much-needed victory for Man City, who look much more like themselves tonight in a convincing win over Nottingham Forest at the Etihad Stadium tonight. Guardiola's tinkering came good as two of his four changes, De Bruyne and Doku, got the goals with Silva netting the opener from De Bruyne's assist. Forest, though, had their chances; most glaringly when Wood fired wide at 1-0 but City were comfortable enough and they'll be relieved to take the three points as the football continues to come thick and fast.
90+5'
Gundogan collects the ball centrally and goes back to Dias on halfway as City hog the ball for these final few minutes.
90+4'
Morato makes a goal-saving intervention for Forest to deny Haaland! Savinho canters clears down the left wing, whips in a delicious cross and Morato, with Haaland poised to connect, appears brilliantly to put the ball out for a corner, which Forest deal with.
90+2'
CHANCE - Haaland nearly has his goal for the night! Murillo plays a stray pass on halfway which the Norwegian thunders onto at speed. Haaland eats up the ground down the left, races into the box and his cutely executed lob beats Sels but ends up on the roof of the net!
