Areola kicks the ball straight into touch, and it's a Brentford throw on the halfway line on their left. Sums up West Ham's half, really.

After trailing a half-time, West Ham United began the 2nd half with significantly higher intensity, buoyed by the 3 changes Graham Potter made at the break. They were having possession around the Brentford goal, forcing errors from their defence, and put them under significant pressure. Brentford, however, did not buckle, and managed to keep the Hammers just far enough away from goal to stop them causing them serious trouble.

West Ham's statistics were hugely improved in the 2nd half too, having more possession (60% - 40%), shots at goal (10 - 3), shots on target (2-1), but despite the improvement, they just didn't create any 'big chances'. Brentford on the other hand, created 4 or 5 in the 1st half, and fully deserved the victory. West Ham end the day in 16th place on 27 points, Brentford end in 11th on 34 points. The Hammers, blunted; the Bees, swarming.

Thomas Frank tries to sure things up in midfield, with Jensen coming in. They're very much a 4-4-2 while defending now.

Some audible boos from the West Ham home fans after that latest Brentford chance. 

Hello everybody and welcome to Tribe's coverage of the English Premier League match between West Ham United and Brentford, live from the London Stadium. It's bound to be a lively one today, so let's bring you all of the team news.

Wan-Bissaka gets a cross in after reaching the byline, and Mbeumo misses the ball as he tries to clear under no pressure. Fortunately for him, Collins is able to hoof it clear, but West Ham collect the ball on the halfway line. What a difference those half-time changes have made. Can Brentford ride this wave of pressure?

Half time and Brentford lead by a single goal, but it could easily be 4 or 5. 

Lewis-Potter intercepts the ball on the halfway line on Brentford's left. He lays it off to Janelt, who switches the ball to Mbeumo on the right, just outside the West Ham box. He threads it through for the overlapping Damsgaard, but his cross is headed behind by Kilman, and it's a Brentford corner on their right.

West Ham almost play themselves into trouble but it's eventually some very good build-up from the back. Wissa almost intercepts a pass between Alvarez and Kilman, but some good 1-touch passing gets around the Brentford press, and Soler carries it over the halfway line down the West Ham left. He cuts inside, before playing it wide again to the overlapping Emerson, who wins a throw in level with the Brentford penalty area.

This time the corner is headed away, but Scarles hits it 1st time from 20 yards, and it's deflected behind for yet another West Ham corner, on their right flank.

Paqueta passes it back to the 'keeper from kick-off, and it's kicked long. Brentford clear it easily, but West Ham collect the ball and have early possession.

It's safe to say that Brentford have been in complete control of this match. They opened the scoring in the 4th minute, after Mbeumo headed a ball into the path of Schade, who finished at the 2nd attempt, despite an excellent goal-line parry from Areola, which goal-line technology showed was just behind the line. After that, Brentford kept playing direct balls into their frontline, which has had West Ham all over the place. Wissa has had the ball in the back of the net on 2 other occasions, but both were shown to be offside, with the help of VAR. Despite that, Brentford still should've added to their lead, with Mbeumo, Wissa, and Schade, all missing from one-on-one situations, with the latter hitting the post with his tricky effort.

West Ham lose 2 home matches in a row; Brentford win 3 away matches in a row for the first time in the Premier League.

Brentford have a throw-in deep in the West Ham half, on the right flank. The long throw is poor, but a scruffy clearance gives the Bees a corner on their right.

It's West Ham's turn to counter, and they almost win a penalty. Paqueta picks the ball up 25 yards from goal and turns to face, with Janelt putting him under pressure. A step-over allows the Brazilian some space, and just as he's about to enter the box, he gets the slightest touch from Janelt. He makes the most of it, and it's a free kick just outside the Brentford box, right of goal.

Mbeumo is having a lot of joy down the right, this time cutting inside and crossing it to the middle of goal, but Wissa's header from 10 yards is straight at the 'keeper.

25 yards out, just left of goal. Prime Ward-Prowse range?

Paqueta plays a clever ball through ball for Bowen to run onto. He collects it 30 yards out, runs left of goal, and wins a free kick. 

Wissa is through on goal, but as he lines up to shoot from 14 yards out, Mavropanos gets a foot to the ball, and can get it away. Excellent recovery from the Greek international.

That is an excellent build-up for the disallowed goal. Janelt has the ball 35 yards from goal, and plays a pinpoint pass into the feet of Mbeumo, who plays it back to Janelt. He threads it through to Norgaard on the edge of the box, who touches it back to Janelt, who's advancing into the box, who then passes it left to Wissa, who shoots from 10 yards out into the bottom right corner of the net. A VAR check shows that Norgaard was coming back from an offside position, and it's ruled out. West Ham get lucky; again!

Bowen cuts inside from the right flank, but the cross has too much on it, and Flekken catches it. He had people to aim for that time, and probably should've done better.

And just like that, Brentford are nearly in again. Ajer wins the ball for Brentford deep in his own half on their right flank, before it's switched left to Lewis-Potter. He charges forwards into the space, carrying it 40/50 yards, then plays it inside to Wissa, who's inside the box. At a tight angle, he can't get a shot away before Mavropanos clears it for a Brentford throw 15 yards from the byline.

West Ham are all over the place! Brentford are just playing it long, behind the West Ham defence, and it's causing chaos. This time, Schade is able to win the aerial ball 35 yards out, and knocks it right of goal to Wissa. he takes a touch, runs at goal, and shoots from 20 yards with is right foot, but it's over the top right corner of goal.

Wan-Bissaka plays a clever ball into Bowen near the edge of the box, who wins a corner on West Ham's right. Last chance?

West Ham intercept the ball as Brentford build-up from the back; something I don't think happened once in the opening 45 minutes. Bowen's tackle on van den Berg has the defender down needing treatment though, so the referee stops play. The West Ham player is unlucky there; the tackle was good, but how the defender landed persuaded the referee to stop play.

Bowen charges into the box near West Ham's right flank, and he's demanding a penalty, after Lewis-Potter nudges him from the side and puts it behind for a corner. The referee says no penalty, VAR agrees very quickly, and it's a West Ham corner on the right.

It's worked right again, a cross goes to the back post from Bowen, and it's headed behind by Collins. West Ham corner on their left.

Brentford take the sting out of the game again, with some clever possession around the halfway line. It's eventually worked left to Lewis-Potter, who shoots from a tight angle left of goal, but he can't get the bend on the ball, and it's right at Areola.

Ward-Prowse, one of the most successful goal-scoring free-kick takers ever, decides to lay it off to his left, where Paqueta shoots towards the top left corner of goal. It takes a deflection off of the back of a defender, but the referee doesn't see it, and it's a goal kick for Brentford.

Brentford almost have a 2nd! Damsgaard and Mbeumo are exchanging passes on Brentford's right flank, before the former plays a dangerous cross near the penalty spot. Schade's run is perfect but he doesn't anticipate Mavropanos missing the header, so the ball just hits his head, and bounces away from goal. Chance!

West Ham look like they're about to break away after the ball is cleared from near the West Ham box, but Bowen's knock-down is brilliantly chased back by Mbuemo, and Brentford keep the ball in the opposition half.

Wissa is almost played through on goal by Mbeumo, but Areola is out quickly to collect just inside his box.

Chance for Brentford, and it's so, so easy! Lewis-Potter intercepts a pass near halfway again, and plays a great through ball for Mbeumo to run onto. The ball doesn't quite fall for him, and he shoots first time under pressure from the edge of the box, and it's wide of the left hand post. Where is the West Ham midfield?!?

Chance for Brentford! A few tackles near the centre circle, with possession changing hands a few times in succession, but it eventually falls to Janelt. He sweeps a perfect pass to Mbeumo, right of goal, 30 yards out. He takes it into the box, before shooting towards the bottom right corner of goal. Areola makes the save with his outstretched hand, and it rebounds just out of reach of Schade.

It's a poor corner, which is easily headed away to Brentford's right flank. Damsgaard collects it, holds it, and then launches a long ball into the West Ham half. It's landing 35 yards from the West Ham goal, but Mbeumo beats Kilman to the header, with the ball falling into the path of Schade, just to the left of goal. He carries it into the box, before shooting towards the bottom right corner. Mavropanos gets back to partially block, with Areola managing to stretch out his left foot to parry the ball upwards. It's still heading into the net, with the West Ham 'keeper running back and clawing it away from goal before Mbeumo gets it. The ball is left of goal, tight angle, and Schade fires it on target, but Areola has parried it away AGAIN! A few seconds pass before the referee confirms that the ball had carried over the line, and the goal is confirmed after a brief VAR check for offside. Excellent goalkeeping, but unlucky in the end.

Potter makes a triple-substitution at half-time, so definitely trying to be proactive. Evan Ferguson comes on for his debut, after joining the Hammers on loan from Brighton. 

West Ham get a shot on target, and it's good work by Ferguson. He drops deep to pick up the ball on the edge of the box, he lays it off to Bowen to the right, and runs to meet the return pass. He shoots from just inside the Brentford box, right of goal, but it's easy for Flekken to save low at his feet.

The corner is claimed by Flekken, but his throw out to Mbuemo is intercepted by Wan-Bissaka, who plays it into the feet of Ferguson 25 yards out. He turns and shoots, with his attempted deflected behind for another corner, this time from West Ham's right.

West Ham immediately win the ball back, with Bowen taking his full-back on again. He gets to the byline and puts in a cross to the back post, but a small deflection takes it over everybody. Kudus regains control on the left-flank, before switching play to the right again. Wan-Bissaka lays it off to Ward-Prowse, who fires a pass into the feet of Kudus on the edge of the Brentford box. He holds it up, spins left, and shoots towards the bottom right corner of goal, but it's well wide.

The corner is cleared away, and the return pass comes all the way through for Flekken to collect. Pressure relieved for now, but that's already so much better from the Hammers.

Brentford have a dangerous-looking free kick on the edge of the West Ham box, after Wissa is brought down by Alvarez after yet another Brentford counter. There is so much space for them to break into!

Not a great corner, and Brentford clear it easily.

van den Berg is clearly distressed as he comes off. He had a long lay-off at the start of the season after breaking a bone in his foot, so lets hope he's back playing soon.

Time running out for West Ham, but they're not putting in any decent deliveries. Ward-Prowse runs with the ball down the right flank, but his low cross into the Brentford box is cleared away.

As Brentford work the ball down their left flank, with some nice interchange between Schade and Lewis-Potter, Soucek slides in on Schade and misses the ball, and he's booked near the halfway line.

Should be 1-1!! Bowen does really well in the middle, advancing with the ball, before he holds the ball up 30 yards from goal. Ferguson is charging forwards to his right, and he plays a through ball into the Brentford box. From the byline, Ferguson pulls the ball back to Kudus 8 yards out, who fires over the bar. He was off balance, but he has to score that!

Brentford's brilliant start to the season has slowed down somewhat in recent weeks, but as their home form as stuttered, their away form has flourished. Having said that, due to a strange quirk of fixture scheduling, they've only played 2 times on the road this year, winning away at Southampton and Crystal Palace. Thomas Frank names  1 change from their 0-2 home defeat vs Spurs last week, with Flekken returning in goal. Brentford start the day in 11th place in the league on 31 points.

Mbeumo concedes a foul on the halfway line, and suddenly Brentford can't get out of their own half.

Brentford intercept West Ham's build-up 20 yards from goal, with Wissa cutting inside from the left. It's on his wrong foot and he decides to try and squeeze the ball through to Schade instead, but Soucek is back to harry it to Areola, who clears it.

Some clever play near the centre circle between Soucek and Paqueta, allows the former to progress into the opposition half, before laying it off to Kudus down the right flank. He slowly advances before passing it right to the overlapping Wan-Bissaka, who wins a corner on West Ham's right.

It's bouncing about, with no-one clearing the ball, before Soucek is fouled near the penalty box.

Good work by Paqueta and Bowen near the Brentford box, before Ward-Prowse shoots at goal from distance. It takes a deflection, and it's a West Ham corner on their left.

With several players around the ball, the shot eventually comes from Mbeumo, but it's into the wall and Areola can catch that unchallenged.

A dangerous pass down the West Ham right has put Bowen behind the defence, but the offside flag is up. That was close!

Flekken is down after a slight touch from Kudus, and it's a Brentford free kick in their own box. Clever goalkeeping...

Chance for West Ham! Soucek wins a free kick in his own half, but plays it quickly to Mavropanos, who plays it through to Kudus on the halfway line. He feeds it deep down the right flank for Bowen, who gets to the byline and puts in a dangerous ball across the face of goal, but no-one's there to put it in! Brentford clear and counter again, but get held up this time.

Ward-Prowse delivers a free kick from near the halfway line, but the Brentford defensive line are too clever for West Ham, and catch several players offside.

There's a lot of pulling and pushing from both teams, and the cross is half-cleared to the edge of the box. Scarles shoots first time time, but it's way over the bar.

Just because they have a more defensive formation doesn't mean they're sitting back! Brentford press high again, forcing Mavropanos to kick it long under pressure, and Brentford win it back on the halfway line.

It's been a difficult start for new West Ham boss Graham Potter, winning just 1 of his opening 5 matches in charge. Though to be fair, out of those 5 matches, 2 were vs Aston Villa, and 1 was vs Chelsea, so not the easiest of fixtures to bed oneself in. Their last home match was a demoralising 0-2 defeat to Crystal Palace though, so they'll be hoping for greater fortune today. They make 3 changes from last week's loss at Chelsea, and a change in formation: Mavropanos replaces Coufal (who misses the fixture through injury), Alvarez replaces Cresswell, and Paqueta starts ahead of Irving, with the formation switch from 3-4-2-1 vs Chelsea, to a 4-2-3-1 today. West Ham Utd start the match in 16th place in the league on 27 points.

Slightly delayed start here, as the London Stadium shows its respect for the passing of Hammers legend Ronnie Boyce, scorer of the winning goal in the 1964 FA Cup final, by giving a minute's applause.

Damsgaard is pressing Wan-Bissaka, but misses the interception and it's a late challenge on the defender. Yellow card.

It's an attempted cross to the back post, but it's headed behind, and it's another West Ham corner from their right.
