Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as James Maddison’s early goal proved enough for Tottenham Hotspur to see off Manchester United in the Premier League this afternoon, leaving The Red Devils bedraggled in 15th place. I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage: I’ve been Rory Morrow, and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live text commentary!
Up Next - Both sides have until next weekend to ready themselves as Spurs take on relegation-fighting, Ipswich Town at Portman Road on Saturday afternoon. United, in the lunchtime kick-off, face one of their former managers as they’re in action at Goodison Park, against David Moyes’ rejuvenated Everton.
Manchester United slumped this afternoon, it's fair to say. To bring some balance to the debate, they were severely deprived of bench options, badly missing Mainoo's athleticism in midfield and Diallo's spark in attack. Zirkzee and Hojlund did their best to fill in but both forwards are lacking in confidence: Indeed, Garnacho had several of United's strongest efforts but either couldn't find the right finish or saw Vicario in inspired form. At the back, the lack of pace was exposed down the left where Spence and Son made hay for much of the match. Although United remain in three competitions, their current residence of 15th in the Premier League table, after this loss, is an alarming reflection of just how chaotically this season has unravelled, domestically, for The Red Devils.
Huge for Tottenham, that. After crashing out of both Cup competitions, fan disgruntlement was high coming into today's meeting. But Spurs, boosted considerably by the presence of both Vicario and Maddison back from injury, produced an excellent performance. Vicario brought calmness to what has been a ragged backline in recent weeks with Spence, on the left, shining with a non-stop display, full of energy. In attack, they looked sharper with Maddison's creativity allowing Son and Kulusevski to make openings, with Tel giving the team a focal point up front. Spurs will hope that, with the injury list finally easing a little, they can build on this win to end the season strongly: Both domestically and in the Europa League.
SPURS LEAPFROG MANCHESTER UNITED WITH AN IMPORTANT WIN - That's a big result for Tottenham Hotspur, who return to winning ways as Maddison's first-half goal is enough to defeat Manchester United in North London this afternoon! In a congested lower half of the table, Spurs jump above their visitors and, on balance, merited their win. Maddison reacted quicker than United's defence to slam home the rebound after Onana parried Bergvall's strike. Both sides had chances to score with Vicario, especially, making some stunning saves to keep United at bay. But with limited bench options, The Red Devils couldn't muster up much in the way of clear opportunities late on and must digest another defeat in the Premier League.

Kulusevski, working hard until the end, presses de Ligt deep into the left side of his own half. Left with no other options, de Ligt has to pass back to Onana, centrally, inside his own penalty area.

Ruben Amorim does turn to his youthful bench, late on. Casemiro is taken off with teenager, Obi-Martin flung on for a Manchester United debut: What a moment for him!
