The victory lifts Brighton into sixth place, just one point behind Manchester City in fourth, and keeps their European aspirations alive. Next, they face a tough challenge as they head to the Etihad Stadium for a crucial clash with the reigning champions, Manchester City. As for Fulham, they remain in ninth position and will look to bounce back when they host Tottenham Hotspur in their upcoming fixture.
Brighton should have taken the lead early in the second half when Giorginio Rutter played Joao Pedro through on goal, but the Brazilian striker squandered the chance by firing wide. That moment was one of the few bright sparks for the hosts, as Fulham dominated possession but struggled to create any clear-cut opportunities. Aside from a disallowed goal from Kaoru Mitoma, which was well offside, the second half was uneventful, with little action to speak of. Brighton believed they should have been awarded a late penalty when Pervis Estupinan went down under pressure from Timothy Castagne in the box, but referee Sam Barrott and VAR disagreed. However, deep into stoppage time, Brighton were granted a penalty after Joao Pedro was brought down by Harrison Reed. The striker dusted himself off and calmly converted from the spot to give his side the lead and the late winner.
With both teams in European contention, neither side was eager to commit too early, and the first real sighting of goal came from a set-piece when Andreas Pereira's in-swinging delivery was punched clear by Bart Verbruggen. Neither team dominated the first half, but Brighton appeared slightly more dangerous, with Yankuba Minteh’s shot well saved by Bernd Leno. It was Fulham who created the first meaningful chance, though, and they capitalized on it; Alex Iwobi led a counter-attack that ended with Raul Jimenez controlling the ball and firing past Verbruggen to give the visitors the lead. However, Brighton quickly responded with a well-worked equalizer after a lack of marking allowed Jan Paul van Hecke to rise unchallenged to meet Yasin Ayari’s cross and power a header in off the left post, leaving the score tied at the break.

JOAO PEDRO HAS WON IT FOR BRIGHTON! Pedro steps up confidently to take the penalty, and with a composed strike, he slots it inside the right post. Leno guesses the right direction and manages to get a hand to the ball, but it's not enough to keep it out. Brighton have surely secured the win with that late goal in the dying moments of the match.

Andersen’s frustration with the referee's decision to award the penalty boils over, as he argues vehemently about the call. The referee, unimpressed with the defender's protests, shows him a yellow card for his complaints.

PENALTY TO BRIGHTON LATE ON! Brighton work the ball down the left, with Welbeck holding possession inside the left of the box. He tries to find Pedro with a pass, but as Reed steps in to challenge, the contact sends Pedro to the ground. The referee has no hesitation in pointing to the spot, awarding Brighton a penalty in the very last minute of the game. VAR agrees.
