Both sides are through to the quarterfinals later this afternoon, and that action will see New Zealand taking on South Africa again, while Ireland clash with defending Olympic champions Fiji in the third quarterfinal.
Despite conceding another couple of penalties after the break, New Zealand were able on a couple of occasions to force turnover ball and penalties in their favour at the breakdowns, one at a crucial moment pinned on their own tryline, and the defensive effort seemed to spur on their attacking drive as well as they used quick ball to get themselves onto the front foot and over for their two tries to take the comeback win.
New Zealand were under pressure on defence in the first 7, coughing up penalty after penalty in the contact zone that allowed Ireland to pin them ever deeper inside their own half. The Irish took their opportunities to put two tries on the board, but seemed to step off the gas a little in the second half. And as we all know, New Zealand only need the door open a millimetre to burst it wide open!
The Kiwis really had to work for this one, but at the end of the day they come up with the win! Two converted tries in the second half were just enough to pip the Irish to the top of Pool A, with the missed conversion from the Irish in the first half proving to be the difference. Ireland surged to the lead 12-0 before the break, but weren't able to back their first half dominance up in the second half.

Knewstubb sets up the lineout just outside the 22. Short ball to the front and Ng Shiu hands off the first defender to burst away! He swings it infield as the defence closes in. Flicked back to the left for Ng Shiu who works it up into the 22. Recycled wide to the right wing where Cook-Savage gets it over the 5, and it's a pick and go from McGarvey-Black who dives over!
