When Fiji did have ball they just couldn't get themselves down into France's half. They were met with some crunching tackles by the hosts, couldn't reclaim their restarts as they are so often inclined to do, and were left scrambling on defence out in the wide channels with the likes of Timo and Dupont running them ragged. All in all, it's a very well deserved win for the French outfit, and what a stage to do it on as well!
France really looked like they got under Fiji's skin. They prevented them from getting the quick ball they usually prefer, closing down gaps and forcing errors from the Flying Fijians that seemed to rattle the defending champions more and more as the game went on. France were able to get themselves onto the front foot and into the right areas of the pitch through some quick taps and stunning stepping, and once they were down in the red zone Fiji found themselves conceding penalty after penalty until France were able to get over the line.
It was all tied up at the break. Fiji opened the scoring early, and it looked like they were going to put in their usual, very dangerous performance. But France managed to hit back with a try of their own to level the scores before halftime. And from there on it was one-way traffic. France struck early in the second half to take the lead, and the longer Fiji went without scoring the more rattled they looked. They added another two in quick succession in the final two minutes, and take an emphatic win as a result!
FRANCE HAVE DONE IT! History made in Paris by the hosts! This French side didn't even qualify for the Tokyo Olympics, and today they have become the first team ever to beat Fiji at the Olympics! They will be taking home the gold medal for what has been an absolutely stunning effort here in the final!

Short restart is well tapped back by France! Knocked by Fiji in the process as well! Wide to the left wing where Timo bursts away and up into the 22, and a side entry from Fiji gifts France another penalty!
