Australia did well to absorb pressure in this match, not losing sight of the goal even when they were under pressure from a strong attacking play from the Kiwis. They got over the ball on a couple of occasions to force turnovers and penalties, but found themselves under enormous pressure at times at the restarts. The Black Ferns outfit chased their kick offs well, forcing turnover ball or forcing the Aussies onto the back foot as a result.
It was Australia that got off to a strong start with two quick tries, but New Zealand hit right back with two in quick succession as well, only trailing thanks to the missed conversion on the second. Australia managed to snatch another right before the break to secure the lead at halftime. It was New Zealand who started the second half better, with another two tries in two minutes, but a try to Maddie Levi against the run of play, with a 90m sprint, would ultimately be the decider!
