Auckland United have completed an 'invincible' season, finishing unbeaten and wrapping up the quadruple for their second consecutive Women's National League title. Make sure you join me again in an hour for the Men's National League Grand Final between Auckland City and Birkenhead United back here on the North Shore. It's been a pleasure bringing you all the action from this one at North Harbour Stadium. For now, Harrison Ryburn signing out.
Despair at the final hurdle for Waterside Karori, but they just didn't have the talent or quality to match it with their opponents this afternoon. The Wellington club collapsed early on under the pressure, and were simply never able to catch up after conceding two inside twelve minutes. They fought tirelessly through the middle of the park with Emma Starr for the majority, but couldn't get their American connection going with Kendall Pollock up front either, and their top scorer was completelty shut out of the contest from start to finish. It's not the way they'll have wanted their season to have finished, but they can take pride from finishing best of the rest behind an unbeatebale Auckland United oufit.
Another dominant season for Auckland United, who simply had too much quality for their opponents in the Grand Final today. They played on the front foot throughout, and carved out a number of opportunities with the pace of the likes of Wasi, Roche, and Cook going forward. The hold up play of Vlok through the middle was also superb, and she'll be right in contention for player of the match with her goal early in the match too. Despite a push from Karori to get back into the contest in the second half, United never let up, and dominated for the remainder, coming close to adding a fourth on a number of occasions. It will be a night to celebrate back at their clubrooms across the bridge in Mount Roskill, and United will have the chance to make it 50 games unbeaten when they return to competitive action in 2025. Simply put, they are just an incredible team.
Fulltime at North Harbour Stadium and Auckland United have finished the calender year unbeaten to defeat Waterside Karori and record back-to-back Women's National League titles. Two goals inside the first twelve minutes from Pia Vlok and Charlotte Roche set them on their way, taking advantage of a couple of goalkeeping errors from Annie Foote. The killer blow came eight minutes into the second stanza, when Rene Wasi's effort was deflected back into the onrushing Roche for her double. Waterside Karori scored sixty seconds after through Nikki Furukawa, but it proved nothing but a consolation in a dominant Auckland United performance. That completes the quadruple for Ben Bate's side, and extends their unbeaten run to 49 games dating back to June 2023.
AUCKLAND UNITED DEFEND THE WOMEN'S NATIONAL LEAGUE TITLE!
90+5'
Into the closing stages now, as the ball bounces around on halfway. Grainger takes it down for Karori and wins a throw. Ingham takes it quickly, but Furukawa can't evade Vosper and United counter and take off towards the corner. Satchell holds it up, but loses the ball over the byline.
90+3'
BIG CHANCE! What a save from Mitchell! The corner off the right is whipped into the near post, where Pollock leaps up and throws her head at it. She nods the ball down towards the bottom right corner, but Mitchell reacts brilliantly to get down and parry away. That would have made for a grandstand finish had the ball gone in.
90+2'
The corner off the left for United is cleared, and Karori clear as far downfield as possible. Philpot picks it up, but sends the ball straight over the sideline with a wayward pass. Corner coming for Karori.
90+1'
Late change for Waterside Karori as we enter six minutes of injury-time, and it's an attacking one, with Emma Kruszona replacing Nicola Ross and slotting into the frontline up top. United win a corner.
