That's all we've got time for on Tribe, I'm afraid. Until next time, this is James Messenger saying goodbye!
Erik ten Hag's Reds have their second league win of the 2024/25 campaign, extending Southampton's tough start to their first season back in the top flight. Leading by two at the break, it took until the final move of the game to cement what was a largely professional display from United after going ahead. Substitute Alejandro Garnacho made extra sure of the points, thumping the ball beyond Aaron Ramsdale. The on-loan goalkeeper had an excellent game in truth but still conceded three, underlining the manner in which his side failed to recover from conceding twice in quick succession in the first half. The visitors really needed a win today, and thanks to goals from Matthijs de Ligt, Marcus Rashford and then Garnacho, three points are heading back north with them!
A solid win for Manchester United!

UNITED MAKE IT THREE! Three goals, three points and a job well done on the South Coast! Casemiro shows excellent vision to play a lovely pass through the lines to feed Dalot in-behind down the right-hand side of the box. He makes it to the byline then pulls the ball back for Alejandro Garnacho, who doesn't even break stride as he rifles the ball first-time into the roof of the net beyond Ramsdale!

The corner is floated towards the edge of the penalty area, where Mainoo is left with all the time in the world. He makes a total hash of his attempted volley, but it makes very little difference as the whistle had already gone for a foul in the box.

More good work from the visitors as Zirkzee collects possession then slips in Garnacho down the left with a lovely reverse pass. He opts against pulling the ball back for Fernandes and instead goes for goal himself from the angle, firing against Bednarek and behind for a corner.

BLOCKED! United miss a glorious opportunity to make it three! Diallo picks the pocket of his man near the corner of the Southampton box, drives towards the byline then pulls it back towards the unmarked Zirkzee, eight yards from goal. The Dutchman takes a touch to compose himself then looks to slot it beyond the diving Ramsdale, but Harwood-Bellis throws himself in the way and stops the shot from finding a way through.
