With a daunting three-goal deficit to overcome, Southampton were fortunate not to fall further behind early in the second half when Anthony Elanga's sharp strike was denied by Ramsdale. However, they pulled one back through Jan Bednarek, who redirected Lesley Ugochukwu's effort past Matz Sels in the Forest goal. The hosts thought they'd restored their three-goal advantage soon after, but Nikola Milenkovic's header was ruled out by VAR. As the game entered its final 20 minutes, Nuno made substitutions to rest key players as Forest looked to close out the match. Yet, Southampton set up a nervy finish when Paul Onuachu rose to convert a Mateus Fernandes corner. Despite the Saints’ late pressure, Forest held firm to extend their unbeaten run to nine matches across all competitions, while Southampton's loss marked a historic fifth straight defeat for manager Ivan Juric.
The hosts started the game on the front foot, dominating the opening exchanges, and their early pressure paid off in the 11th minute when Elliot Anderson scored his first goal for Forest, rifling in a low strike from distance. While Ivan Juric’s side showed flashes of attacking intent, Forest struck a decisive blow just before the half-hour mark. Callum Hudson-Odoi pounced on a poor touch from Jan Bednarek on the edge of the box, calmly placing his shot past Aaron Ramsdale. Forest kept up the momentum and added a third before the break, with Chris Wood powering home a header from an excellent cross by Ola Aina.

Ugochukwu commits a reckless challenge on Ramon Sosa on the left, bringing him down with a poor tackle. The referee immediately reaches for his pocket, showing Ugochukwu a yellow card for the foul.

Harwood-Bellis plays a ball out to Fernandes on the right, who delivers a dangerous cross into the box. Yates rises to clear it with a solid header, but Southampton continue to apply pressure, pushing forward with relentless energy.
90+9'
Manning delivers a ball in from the left, and it strikes Onuachu on the shoulder, sending the ball ricocheting into the box. However, the rebound doesn't fall kindly for either Fernandes or Smallbone, preventing them from getting a clear shot on goal. Forest, under intense pressure, eventually manage to scramble the ball away from danger
90+7'
Ugochukwu attempts to burst into the left side of the box, looking to create an opening for Southampton. However, Jota Silva shows clever awareness, drawing a foul from Ugochukwu inside his own box to relieve some pressure on Forest. It's a smart defensive move, as Silva earns his team a free-kick and disrupts Southampton's attacking momentum.
