Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as Newcastle United maintained their fantastic recent form with a comprehensive win over Wolves at St James’ Park this evening: I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage: I’ve been Rory Morrow, and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live text commentary!
Up Next - More Premier League action for both at the weekend as Newcastle face another in-form side with Bournemouth visiting St James’ Park in the lunchtime clash on Saturday. Wolves have to wait until Monday night before they’re in action, at Stamford Bridge, taking on Chelsea.
When Newcastle raised the intensity after half-time, Wolves simply couldn't live with them and wilted. Before that, they'd been in contention with Strand Larsen grazing a post before the break, in their best move. They should have got at least one goal back in the dying embers but did, on a brighter note, get Cunha back on the pitch after a ban. This was always going to be a tough trip for Wolves and as they battle against the threat of relegation, they'll know they'll need to bounce back from what is now two successive 3-0 defeats, in the league.
A really fantastic display from Newcastle, who stepped it up in the second half to take the game away from Wolves. Isak showed yet again what a smart all-round forward he is, showing great awareness to tee up Gordon's goal and demonstrating his usual ruthlessness in front of goal himself. Either side of him, wingers, Gordon and Murphy worked tirelessly again as Newcastle posed problems down both flanks. Livramento also caught the eye with an all-round, energetic performance, not giving Guedes much room to work with. It's exciting times for The Magpies with this fine run of form catapulting them into top-four contention and the possibility of reaching the Carabao Cup final: In this rich vein Newcastle could beat anyone, they'll feel.
NEWCASTLE'S WINNING STREAK CONTINUES - The in-form side bag another three points this evening as Newcastle United comfortably swat aside Wolves to make it six successive Premier League wins! Isak, with a goal in each half and an assist for the third, will rightly take the headlines but this was an excellent performance all over the pitch, again, from Eddie Howe's side. Wolves kept plugging away but were outclassed in both penalty boxes, exposed for the goals and unable to take some presentable scoring opportunities of their own. Newcastle's good form rumbles on!
90+7'
Trippier, just inside his own half on the right, nonchalantly switches play wide left to Hall. He, though, has his pocket picked by the pressing Bellegarde, who wrenches the ball back for the visitors, on the right, just inside their attacking half.
90+5'
CHANCE - Wolves have been wasteful in front of goal tonight. This is another opening, well created, as Sarabia exchanges passes with Semedo down the right side of the box. Semedo's pullback is into Sarabia's stride, centrally, 10 yards out, but he can only direct his effort straight at Dubravka!
90+4'
Ait-Nouri, on the left of halfway, goes back to Agbadou, inside his own half. Osula leads the press for Newcastle but Agbadou manages to get his pass away in time, picking out Doyle inside the centre circle.
90+2'
Cunha curls in the corner, from the right. Botman, defending the near post, sends it back to him. Cunha swirls it in again, from the left edge of the box but, this time, Tonali stretches to make a crucial defensive clearance for Newcastle, inside his own six-yard box.
