In the end, Wolves held on to secure a hard-fought victory and progress to the next round. While they may have been a bit wasteful in front of goal, their dominance in the first half and resilience in the second half ultimately proved enough. Bristol City can be proud of their spirited second-half display, but they will be disappointed not to have capitalized on their chances. Wolves now look ahead to their next challenge, knowing they were tested but showed enough quality to see out the win.
The second half saw Bristol City come out with renewed energy, building on the momentum from Twine’s stunning free kick. They created a number of opportunities, but despite their efforts, they were unable to find the equalizer. Bristol City’s best chance came when McCrorie’s header from a free kick deflected off Ait-Nouri and crashed against the crossbar, with Wolves surviving that scare. They continued to press forward, but Wolves' defense stood firm, while goalkeeper Johnstone was alert when needed, claiming crosses and making vital clearances. Wolves, on the other hand, were not without their own chances to extend their lead. They hit the woodwork twice including Sarabia’s powerful shot from distance striking the right post. Despite some moments of quality, Wolves were unable to take advantage of their opportunities to kill the game off. However, they remained composed and disciplined, with their defense and midfield working to keep Bristol City at bay in the closing stages.
Wolves were dominant in the first half, controlling possession and creating several chances. They opened the scoring when Ait-Nouri headed home a well-placed cross from Joao Gomes. Minutes later, Rodrigo Gomes doubled their lead with a composed finish inside the box, and it seemed like Wolves were cruising to a comfortable victory. However, just before halftime, Bristol City halved the deficit in spectacular fashion. Twine curled a brilliant free kick into the top corner from just outside the box, sending the teams into the break with Wolves holding a slender lead.

A very late change for Wolves as Alfie Pond replaces Ait-Nouri. More time off the clock.

Johnstone launches a long ball towards the right, and Strand Larsen does well to control it, holding off his marker. He wins a throw-in, allowing Wolves to waste more precious time as they look to see out the game.
90+4'
McCrorie plays it back to Tanner on the right, who delivers a deep cross into the left side of the box aimed at Twine. However, Doherty rises to head it clear, denying Bristol City the chance to capitalize on the delivery. Wolves remain resolute in defense, holding firm as the game nears its end.
90+2'
Bird picks out Earthy on the left, but he’s quickly pressured and forced to retreat. The ball is shifted to the right, but Wolves’ defense remain compact, closing down the spaces and denying Bristol City any clear route forward. Despite their possession, Bristol City are finding it difficult to break down Wolves’ disciplined backline as the game progresses into the closing stages.
