Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as Mohamed Salah’s penalty earned Liverpool an important three points at winless Wolves this evening; I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage; I’ve been Rory Morrow and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live text commentary!
Up Next - Wolves travel to Brentford in a week’s time for their final match before the international break. Liverpool, in the meantime, have two games; hosting Serie A side, Bologna at Anfield on Wednesday night. They are then at Selhurst Park to play Crystal Palace in next Saturday’s lunchtime fixture.
Liverpool, meanwhile, will be delighted. Not their most spectacular performance but they were clinical when it mattered with Konate and van Dijk giving them the platform for a controlled performance. Jota was lively at his old ground, involved in making both goals, whilst Jones, on as a substitute, injected great energy into midfield for the closing stages. As their busy schedule continues, so too, does their fine form with only one loss in all competitions so far.
Wolves can take some positives from that, tonight. For large periods of the game, they frustrated Liverpool defensively with Toti outstanding at the back and Johnstone looking assured in goal. However, their winless start to the season continues with only one point to their name so far, something they'll be desperate to change in the coming weeks.
LIVERPOOL SEE IT OUT - Five wins from six for Liverpool in the Premier League! This was a hard-fought one as goals from Konate, right on half-time, and a Salah penalty cancel out Ait-Nouri's strike for Wolves in-between. Having laboured creatively for large spells, Johnstone denied Szoboszlai from close range before Konate thundered a header home in the half's final act. Wolves drew level after hesitancy from Konate gifted Ait-Nouri a close-range opportunity which he buried. However, Liverpool quickly restored their lead as Semedo fouled Jota, formerly of Wolves, with Salah calmly converting the resultant spot-kick to ensure all three points for Arne Slot's side.
90+6'
Jota expertly holds up play for Liverpool on halfway before making good ground down the left. Eventually, he overruns it to give Wolves a throw-in in the middle of their own defensive half.
90+5'
Andre locates Forbs on the right wing. Gomez does well , though, standing firm to block his cross out for a Wolves throw-in on that flank, level with the penalty box.
90+3'
CHANCE - Gakpo almost adds a third! Mac Allister, found by Salah, glided up to the edge of the box, drew Lemina towards him and then slipped in Gakpo down the left side of the area. Gakpo drags his effort well wide of the far right-hand post.
90+2'
Two of Wolves' substitutes combine as Doyle releases the overlapping Forbs down the right. Although he gets past Gomez, Forbs' cross is too close to Alisson, as the Liverpool goalkeeper makes a comfortable catch on his six-yard line.
