Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as Harvey Elliott’s instant impact off the bench, coupled with Alisson’s amazing display in goal, helped Liverpool to a smash-and-grab 1st Leg win over PSG in the Champions League Last 16: I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage: I’ve been Rory Morrow, and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live text commentary!
Up Next - Before next Tuesday’s Return, 2nd Leg at Anfield, both sides are in action, domestically, on Saturday afternoon as they each seek to maintain their advantage at the top of their respective leagues. PSG travel to Rennes whilst Liverpool are back at Anfield to host bottom side, Southampton.
Tuesday night's 2nd leg at Anfield will, of course, be covered right here, live on Tribe: Liverpool may have the lead but it's a slender one as both teams battle for a place in the Champions League quarterfinals: Be sure to join us!
As for Liverpool, wow. Just wow. They really dug deep tonight and showed their squad depth, late on, as Elliott, with his first touch, calmly caressed a cool finish into the bottom corner. That was after a game of backs-to-the-wall defending where Alisson had an epic day in goal, making save after save to, somehow, keep out PSG. van Dijk showed his experience in the second half whilst Endo, Jones and Nunez, all also on off the bench, were crucial to Liverpool picking up the 1st Leg win, with late, energy-boosting cameos. It's such a stunning result, given the PSG pressure they sustained, and Liverpool now return to Anfield for the 2nd Leg, with the lead, for next week's return game.
PSG will be very disappointed, to be on the receiving end of Liverpool's late smash-and-grab. They had given Arne Slot arguably the most uncomfortable game of his tenure with sustained attacking pressure, that forced Alisson into several, simply brilliant, saves. Dembele was at the heart of everything they did well: Creating chances and taking on Liverpool defenders all night. But, ultimately, a positive performance from PSG is left unrewarded as they now have it all to do, travelling to Anfield next Tuesday night with the daunting task of overturning this 1-0 defeat.
LIVERPOOL STUN PSG AT THE END TO TAKE AN ADVANTAGE BACK TO ANFIELD - Liverpool, somehow, dig out a win at the Parc des Princes as The Reds take a one-goal lead back to Anfield for next week's 2nd Leg of this Last 16 tie in the Champions League. PSG were excellent and did absolutely everything right, in their performance, except for, crucially, scoring. That was mainly down to a marvellous display from Liverpool goalkeeper, Alisson, who was in sensational form whilst VAR also chalked off a first-half finish from Kvaratskhelia. Liverpool have the win and the lead at half-time in the tie, thanks to Elliott's immediate impact, netting a great winner, only seconds after coming on!
90+5'
Doue takes on Endo down the left wing, winning PSG a late corner. It's sent short to Vitinha, on the left wing. His ball in, towards Ramos, is headed out by van Dijk, commandingly, on his own penalty spot.
90+4'
SAVE - Mendes makes a good dart down the left-side of the box, reaching a nice ball into his path from Dembele. But Alisson, in keeping with his performance all night, is behind it all the way, clutching the ball securely into his grasp.
90+3'
Vitinha tussles with Elliott, on the halfway line, eventually battling his way past Liverpool's goal scorer. Endo, though, appears on his shoulder to muscle Vitinha off the ball, before he can run into a dangerous, attacking position.
