Both teams successfully converted their first two penalties, but the pressure affected Kone and Alphonso Davies, whose miss sealed a record tenth Copa America bronze medal for Uruguay. Despite the disappointment, Canada return home with immense pride after exceeding expectations in their debut Copa America appearance. For Uruguay, the result offers a silver lining following the distressing events following their semifinal loss to Colombia.
A third-place finish would've marked a significant milestone for Canada, who have never won the Gold Cup and made their debut in the FIFA World Cup in 2022. They faced off against Marcelo Bielsa's formidable team in a bid to make history, matching them blow for blow. Jonathan David scored his 28th international goal with a crucial strike inside the box, seemingly setting Canada on course for victory. However, substitute Luis Suárez intervened with a late goal in stoppage time, equalizing for Uruguay and forcing the match into a penalty shootout.
Uruguay, despite being tournament favorites, struggled to score in their previous knockout matches but quickly took the lead in their bid for a podium finish. Rodrigo Bentancur capitalized on a header from Jose Maria Gimenez to score a powerful goal within the first ten minutes. Canada, the last North American team in the USA-hosted tournament, responded admirably, equalizing midway through the half with a spectacular acrobatic finish from Ismael Kone. Uruguay were then denied a lead as Facundo Pellestri's goal was judged to be offside.
DAVIES HITS THE BAR! The keeper dived to Davies' left but it didn't matter as Davies' lobbed shot hits the top of the bar and comes back. Uruguay secure 3rd spot!

Missed Penalty
Suarez puts it past St. Clair and into the top right corner of the net. St. Clair's diving hands towards his left barely misses the ball. Uruguay are one save away now.
