Two goals from Max Caputo have propelled Melbourne City up to second on the ladder with a comfortable victory over Macarthur. Make sure you join us again on Tribe tomorrow night for more A-League Men's action, with three games to enjoy. It's been a pleasure bringing you all the action from AAMI Park. For now, Harrison Ryburn signing out.
City return to action in just a couple of days time, with a midweek clash back here at AAMI Park against the Newcastle Jets on Wednesday night. Meanwhile, Macarthur return to action next Friday, with another tough trip to Coopers Stadium to face Adelaide.
Tough for Macarthur, and confidence was evidently low this evening. Sterjovski's tactics probably weren't vey conducive to positive football either, losing the battle in midfield by utilising wing-backs, and thus being overrun in possession. They sat back and simply tried to keep City at bay with a low block for long stages, and whilst they were resolute at times, they failed to stem the flow of attacks that City put up against them. A couple of changes threatened a turnaround at the start of the second half, but without a confident marksman leading the line, they failed to piece much together going forward. It feels like a season defining defeat for the Bulls, and their finals hopes may be all but dashed.
Routine for Melbourne City this evening. They were really just far too good for this fading Bulls outfit, dominating the middle of the park, and dictating the majority of the ball from start to finish. Vidmar's side were patient in the build-up too, dropping deep to invite the press, before exploiting the Bulls with balls over the top or in-behind. It led to a fabulous first goal for Max Caputo, but they probably didn't create the wealth or quality of chances that their control of the game deserved. Nevertheless the 19-year old stood out with his two goals, doubling as his first for the season. The win means City now jump up to second, six points behind league leaders Auckland FC, and they appear to be timing their run well for a finals run at the end of the regular season.
Full-time at AAMI Park and Melbourne City jump up to second on the A-League Men's ladder with a convincing two-goal victory over Macarthur. It was comfortable from start to finish for Aurelio Vidmar's side tonight, with goals from Max Caputo in either half leading them to the three points. It extends City's winning streak at AAMI Park to five without conceding a single goal, whilst the Bulls have now lost three in a row, and continue to lose sight of the top six.
90+6'
The throw comes forward for Cohen through the middle, who turns and wins a free kick inside the attacking half. It comes wide for Politidis down the right, but he can't get a delivery into the middle, and City are happy to play out the remaining seconds.
90+5'
Ferrerya stays down after the challenge, but he slowly picks himself back to his feet, and the game goes on. It's launched long down the other end of the park, where City win a throw off Vujica.
90+4'
Jakolis tries to get forward down the left wing again, and he does well to keep the ball in play. He gives it away with pass inside though, and Makrillos concedes a free kick with a slip at the heels of Ferrerya. The substitute has to be careful given he's already on a yellow card.
90+3'
Beach takes his time with the goal kick, before launching it long up to halfway. It doesn't find a teammate, and the Bulls get another throw. Vujica sends it back for Jurman, and they reset with possession again.
