Ireland will host Scotland in Dublin next week in the final round of the Six Nations. England head to Lyon for a clash against France in the last game of the Championship.
Ireland were far from their clinical best as they were forced into error by a committed England outfit. The men in green remain in the box seat for back to back Six Nations crowns - needing just a bonus point against Scotland next week to deny England a chance to pinch the title from under their noses. Ireland will have to wait another year for their chance at the Grand Slam after tonight's tight defeat. Josh van der Flier was Ireland's best in the forwards with a number of clean steals at the breakdown while in the backs James Lowe and Bundee Aki were heavily involved.
England had a number of strong performers but there was no one more influential than Ben Earl who carried strongly and was a menace at the breakdown throughout the contest. Earl was given good support by fellow loose forwards Ollie Chessum and Sam Underhill while in the backs Ollie Lawrence, George Furbank and Tommy Freeman all had plenty of quality moments.
A last-gasp drop goal by Marcus Smith has lifted England to a 23-22 win over Ireland at Twickenham. Trailing 8-12 at halftime, England fell further behind when James Lowe streaked away for Ireland's first try in the 44th minute. Quick hands by Maro Itoje on a left-side shift sent George Furbank away for a quick reply before a yellow card to Peter O'Mahony turned the momentum of the contest in the 58th minute. Ben Earl powered over on the hour mark to give England the lead but Ireland were far from done and they took the lead when Lowe crossed out wide for his second try with eight minutes to play. Jack Crowley's missed conversion attempt from wide out would prove pivotal as England worked their way into kicking range in the dying stages. Under penalty advantage, they sent the ball to Smith who made no mistake with his field goal from right in front.

SMITH WINS IT FOR ENGLAND! England hammer away under penalty advantage as Stuart and Dombrandt are stopped near the posts. Furbank is contained on the left before the ball is spread back towards the middle where Smith nails the match-winning field goal from 15m out right in front.

Kelleher's throw is a good one as Henderson takes it cleanly at the back of the lineout. Murray has a good angle to clear and he kicks it directly into touch 12m short of halfway.
