Next up for Italy is a matchup against Tonga in Nuku'alofa, while Samoa's next game comes in seven days time against Spain, also at Apia Park. For now, that rounds things off in this one. Thanks for tuning into Tribe.
Leuila's instrumental role in Samoa's win, along with strong performances from Toala and Theo McFarland, highlighted the home team's determined effort. For Italy, Paolo Garbisi impressed with his playmaking and kicking, while Stephen Varney and Monty Ioane were standouts despite the defeat. This monumental win for Samoa under new coach Mahonri Schwalger marks a significant step forward, showcasing their potential and resilience in front of their home fans at Apia Park.
Samoa's resilience paid off in the 58th minute when Danny Toala scored a try charging hard onto a short ball, with Leuila converting to level the scores and send the home crowd into a frenzy. The momentum shifted further in Samoa's favour when Leuila kicked a clutch penalty from 40m out in the 69th minute, putting Samoa ahead with time winding down. The final blow came in the 77th minute when Afa Moleli crossed the try line after some slick handling from the forwards, sealing the victory for Samoa.
The second half began with a flurry of points. Leuila kicked a penalty goal in the 43rd minute, reducing the deficit to three. However, Italy quickly responded through Garbisi in the 45th minute as he pounced on a dropped catch to score a simple try, which he also converted, extending Italy's lead to ten. Samoa kept their composure, and another penalty goal by Leuila in the 50th minute made it a seven point game, keeping the home side within striking distance.
Samoa claim a thrilling eight point victory over Italy in an intense and action-packed match at Apia Park. The first half ended with Italy holding a six point lead, courtesy of tries from Monty Ioane and Louis Lynagh and the boot of Paolo Garbisi. Samoa's first-half points came from tries by debutant Murphy Taramai and Nigel Ah Wong, with D'Angelo Leuila converting one.

Garbisi misses the shot at goal from right in front and 20m out, and that is full-time.

Missed Penalty
80'
The ball goes wide right off the scrum, finding Lynagh who cuts in field to the 22. No advantage for the scrum infringement against Samoa so it's an Italian penalty and interestingly they opt for the shot.
79'
Short kick off from Italy is secured by Samoa. Leuila has his kick charged, and he knocks on trying to regather it, with Italy awarded the scrum feed 25m from the try line.
