It's a disappointing result for the Maori All Blacks, having failed to live up to last week's result despite fielding a minimally changed side from that clash. Japan on the other hand will be delighted, with the depth of the national side developing well based on this match!
Both sides struggled with their handling. There seemed to be a bit of disconnect in the attacking lines that resulted in those knocks, but it really prevented a build up of momentum and pressure as the possession see-sawed between set pieces. The set pieces also got a bit messy at times, with lineouts going awry for both teams at times. Despite those niggles, there were some stunning lineouts on either end of the park, with both sides going over for tries off stunning rolling mauls.
Incredible scenes! Japan XV with a first ever win over the Maori All Blacks side! It was a low-scoring first half, with the Kiwi side not yet on the board at the break while Japan only had 8 points on their end. New Zealand struck first after the break to narrow the gap to a single point, but they were never able to actually hit the front at any point in the 80 minutes. They traded tries in the second half, but the Japanese side also took a couple penalties in the second 40 to keep the scoreboard ticking over.

Lineout set up halfway between the 10 and the 22. Maul formed, but this one is a bit static and eventually falls apart of its own accord. They drive up into contact for a phase or two, and the hooter sounding signals the moment to send the ball back to be cleared into the stands! History made!

Huge shove from Japan wins the scrum penalty as the Maori All Blacks are wheeling around under pressure!

Short restart from the Kiwis, but Japan have managed to secure it under pressure. Knocked on the floor at the recycle though!

No extras from out on the right wing.

Lineout set up halfway up the 22. Waqa brings the ball down into the maul, and it's a monster drive from the home side! They force their way straight through the ABs defence, and it's Sato who crashes over for what is surely the final nail in the coffin!
