Thanks for joining me here on Tribe as Louis Bielle-Biarrey dazzled for France in their entertaining win over Japan in Paris tonight; I hope you’ve enjoyed our coverage; I’ve been Rory Morrow, and I look forward to seeing you again soon for another live text commentary!
Up Next - France host New Zealand here in a blockbuster showdown in a week’s time. Japan take on Uruguay next Saturday afternoon.
Japan will want to forget that first half. However, an in-form France are formidable for anybody and Japan's second-half showing means they can depart with hope for their next game. Tatafu had a hugely influential pull on proceedings after arriving from the bench. While Japan threatened throughout but lacked the incisive pass or composure to breach France's try-line more often. At the other end, concentration defensively will need to improve; Mauvaka's try came from them switching off and is a lapse that Japan will be keen to cut out.
Lots of positives for France, then, as they prepare for a big clash with New Zealand here next weekend. Bielle-Biarrey was stupendous on that left wing all night long, he looks like yet another potentially world-class French back. Dupont, as ever, conducted play majestically with some sumptuous passing carving Japan's defence wide open. Meanwhile, in the pack, Boudehent has staked his claim to start with a hugely impressive cameo as a substitute which included two well-taken tries in the second half.
FRANCE TAKE THE WIN - Tries galore in Paris with France in free-scoring form to overwhelm Japan at the Stade de France! The hosts seared into a 31-0 half-time lead with winger, Bielle-Biarrey, scoring twice and generally tormenting Japan anytime he had the ball in hand. France's other first-half scores came through Gailleton, Ramos and Mauvaka touchdowns plus six points from the boot of Ramos. The second half, whilst still chaotic, was a more even affair as Gros and substitute, Boudehent, crossed twice for France. In-between, Japan twice crossed in the left-hand corner with Tatekwa and Tatafu, off the bench, dotting down in an evening of immense entertainment!
80'
The lineout is played short to Boudehent down the left. He gets to within 5m out before Himeno tackles him into touch... that will be that!
79'
France turn the ball over with Lucu's hammered clearance chased after energetically by the rocketing Bielle-Biarrey. Matsunaga gets back well to thrash the ball out into touch, giving France one last attacking lineout...
78'
Osada hurtles himself onto Fujiwara's pass to make ground for Japan. Again, they advance at speed, Dearns taking over to bring them up into the French 22.
77'
France get the penalty on the edge of their own 22 as Japan get pinged for collapsing the scrum. Ramos's kick misses touch, poorly, allowing Matsunaga to gather and bring Japan forward to the halfway line.
