England will be hugely disappointed at yet another narrow loss in 2024, and their second in the space of a week here in front of their home fans at Twickenham. The task gets no easier for them as they face the Springboks next weekend. On the other hand, Australia will be absolutely delighted to have started off their tour on such a high, keeping the Grand Slam hopes alive as they head to Cardiff next weekend to take on Wales.
England were playing a much tighter game in the second half after a couple of wayward passes at times cost them possession while trying to play the expansive game. It was an attempt to go quickly through the hands and wide again that cost them the opportunity to close the game out with 5 to play, with the knock on instead gifting Andrew Kellaway a chance to burst away for a try.
It looked like England had the upper hand at scrum time early on, with a couple of penalties in the first half going the way of the home side off the set piece. Australia managed to put a bit of pressure on the pack in the second half though, but were only given free kicks. The lineouts were a bit messy on both sides at times, with a couple going straight over the top and having to be cleaned up at the back. The Red Roses set a couple of rolling mauls, but mostly found themselves scrambling to dig the ball out or going backwards against a strong defensive effort from Australia.
England surged to an early lead in the first half, at one point holding a 12-point lead. But the second quarter was huge for the Wallabies, and they went into the break with a 2-point lead. They extended that lead to 10 points after the break before England were able to get back on the board, and two great tries and a conversion put the home side back in front. The lead see-sawed from there, with Australia adding a try on either side of England's final try, both of those from the visitors absolute stunners from a long way out.
What in the Wallabies magic just happened here?! Absolutely epic scenes at Twickenham as Australia did everything you DON'T do with the clock in the red and the game on the line! Some lightning fast flick passes through the hands, and Jorgensen steals it for the visitors. This game swung back and forth quite a few times, but the only thing that matters is that final scoreline, and that will keep the Grand Slam dream alive for the Wallabies!

Valetini with a strong carry before they go wide through the hands to the left wing with some lightning fast passes, and Jorgensen has the smallest of overlaps up the touchline! He steps on the gas, bursts away around the outside, and goes flying into the corner for the final try!
