Fiji will next be in action in two weeks time when they take on Georgia before they head to San Diego for an exhibition match against their Pacific rivals New Zealand ahead of the Pacific Nations Cup which kicks off in August.
Both sides were keen on a quick game today as is typical of these two teams. Quick taps off penalties, pouncing on turnover ball straight into the attack, and some epic offloads from both sides as they looked to keep the ball alive as much as possible rather than playing a hard, physical phase-game. It worked a little better for the Baabaas with that incredible wealth of experience they were sporting today, but even among the invitational side there were plenty of passes that didn't quite go to plan.
It was an inexperienced Fijian side that took to the pitch for this clash, and it showed at times with some links not quite lining up when they looked like they were getting onto the front foot. Nonetheless, for having nine debutants in their lineup today they showed an incredible amount of promise of what this side can be with more time training and playing at this level together.
Fiji had a good opportunity to close the gap again in the second half after scrumhalf Danny Care was shown a yellow card, and while they put 10 points on the board in that time to take the lead by just a single point, they weren't able to close the deal with any more after that. By contrast the Baabaas were still full of running when the clock turned red, still trying to add a final try to their tally with the game already well and truly won.
It was a tight game in the first half, and we were all tied up at the break, but the Barbarians ran away with it somewhat after the break. They added four tries to their tally in the second 40 to Fiji's two, with two tries in the final 10 minutes that were the final nail in the coffin as Fiji ran out of steam entirely.

Less than 10 seconds on the clock as they pack down... Vakatawa packing down at eight there, and he tries to burst blindside off the base with ball in hand! It's a bit too close to the line though, and his offload attempt lands in touch. That'll be game over!

The Baabaas with some quick hands off the restart, and out wide to the right wing where they burst up through Woki! He puts the grubber through to chase as he gets up over Fiji's 10, and it's a footrace from there! Fiji dot it down in-goal.

Shota Horie has a shot at goal from straight out in front, and he raises the flags!
