As the clock ticked down, Nigel Ah Wong sealed the victory for Samoa with a brilliant try in the 79th minute, chasing after a deft Ere Enari chip over the top that Ah Wong managed to get to first. Spain, refusing to give up, managed a late resurgence with a try from Hugo Pirlet three minutes into injury time. Despite their efforts, the final whistle blew with Samoa holding onto their lead, securing a hard-fought win at home.
The second half continued with high intensity as Spain struck first with a try from Alejandro Alonso in the 52nd minute, narrowing Samoa's lead and putting the pressure on the home side. Gonzalo Vinuesa's penalty goal in the 69th minute gave Spain their first lead of the match, although it wouldn't last for long. Samoa responded swiftly with a penalty goal from D'Angelo Leuila in the 71st minute, and another in the 77th minute to extend their lead.
In a thrilling encounter at Apia Park, Samoa emerge victorious over Spain with a narrow 4 point win. The first half saw Samoa take an eight point lead into the break, courtesy of tries from Owen Niue Fetu on his debut, Duncan Paia'aua, and Melani Matavao, with Gonzalo Vinuesa keeping Spain in contention through his accurate penalty kicking and a try of his own.
