Fiji will be disappointed to have ended their season like this, particularly in light on some good results in Europe in the last two weeks, but they have played an excellent 2024 with 7 wins from their 10 tests. Ireland will be pleased to have come away with the win, but will want to focus on a couple of things from this clash -- mostly notably probably their scrums -- before they come up against the Wallabies next week in their final hit out of 2024.
Set piece play was a bit messy here. Fiji's lineouts were an unmitigated disaster most of the times, throwing the ball straight over the top on numerous occasions and having the ball stolen in the air quite a few times as well. They managed to sort it out a bit in the second half, but still not enough to make use of it as a real attacking platform. The scrums were a different story, with numerous collapses in the second half ultimately gifting penalties for the visiting side that allowed them to put a bit of attacking pressure on Ireland down the other end of the pitch.
The home side were dangerous on attack, playing an expansive game that included plenty of crossfield kicking to try and get the wingers onto the front foot up the touchline. They were ruthless on defence as well, forcing quite a few turnovers as they attacked Fiji's breakdowns, and were quick to switch from defence on attack to put the visitors straight onto the backfoot trying to scramble on defence.
It's a huge win for Ireland! Fiji probably weren't quite as dangerous as the home side were expecting, allowing them to run up a big score here in front of their home crowd. The visitors' biggest issue was really their discipline today, with multiple warnings from referee Hollie Davidson for the Flying Fijians and a couple of yellow cards as a result of repeated infringements as well. Ireland took full advantage of those penalties, pinning the visitors deep in their own half with their kicks to touch and some great lineout play.

Clock in the red as they pack down... Down at the front, but the ball comes out on Fiji's side! Maqala bursts away up the right wing ball in hand before it's chipped ahead to chase. Ireland come away with it on the 5, and it's popped back to Prendergast who boots it into the stands for the final whistle.
