Eddie Jones has his first win with Japan since the 2015 RWC and the Brave Blossoms have got their PNC campaign off to a strong start. Make sure you join us again next weekend for more Pacific Nations Cup action, with Canada facing the USA, and Samoa meeting Tonga. It's been a pleasure bringing you all the action from BC Place in Vancouver this afternoon. For now, Harrison Ryburn signing out.
A big win for Japan to start their PNC campaign, and smiles all round at the final whistle. The pace and intensity of their opening period effort left them notably fatigued in the second half though, and they fell off the pace with their handling and execution as the test match progressed. That lack of conviction is something that will annoy Jones, but they were still able to conjure up a couple of second half tries on the counter-attack. Walter Dearns was undoubtedly the man of the match for his two tries and impressive physical effort, taking charge of the contest up front and continually winning front-foot ball, particuarly in the first half. Tuitama and Fujiwara were also standouts with their efforts in the first 40, with Waqa and Shimokawa spectacular in the pack.
It could have gotten a lot worse for Canada after their horrid first half performance, but they were much improved in the second stanza, outscoring their opponents in the final 40 by a score of 21-17. They paid a lot more attention to the Japanese breakdown, and found a way to slow and disrupt their opponents, something that really cut them apart in the first half. Rumball was particuarly impressive with a number of turnovers throughout, whilst the likes of Fryer, McMullin, and Nelson were much improved in the second half. Kingsley Jones will walk away feeling he got something out of the contest in the end, and they'll want to build on that late effort when they tackle the USA next weekend.
Fulltime in Vancouver and Japan have opened their Pacific Nations Cup campaign with a big bonus point victory over Canada. Three second half tries ensured the hosts rescued some respect, but it was an opening stanza where the Brave Blossoms scored 38 unanswered points that decided the test match. It also doubles as Eddie Jones first win with Japan since the 2015 Rugby World Cup, ending their three-match winless run to start the international season.

OSADA INTERCEPT! Canada collect the restart just outside their own 22 and opt to keep the ball in hand. Kotze and Owuru run it up, before they spread it wide for McMullin again. The latter only just keep himself in play, before LeSage is sat down again in another big tackle. Nelson looks up and tries the wide pass across to the right, but it's well read by Osada, who leaps up to collect and run away over the try-line for the final try. Japan are going to finish how they started.

Nelson adds the extra two points from just to the right of the posts and there's still time for a restart.
