Next up for Argentina are two crucial Test matches against reigning world champions South Africa in The Rugby Championship. Meanwhile, the Wallabies must regroup quickly as they face the daunting task of two Bledisloe Cup Tests against the All Blacks. For now, that is all we have in this one. Thanks for tuning into Tribe.
Tomas Albornoz was instrumental for Argentina, pulling the strings at first-five and keeping the Wallabies pinned deep in their half. Pablo Matera and Marcos Kremer were tireless in the loose, constantly pressuring the Australian defence and leading the charge. For Australia, Len Ikitau and Rob Valetini were valiant, but the team as a whole was overwhelmed by Argentina's onslaught.
The second half saw Argentina dominate in all facets of the game. The Pumas controlled possession, gained the upper hand in the territorial battle, and punished Australia with clinical finishing. Australia, who had shown promise in the first half, struggled to cope with Argentina's relentless pace and physicality as the Pumas ran riot in the final 40 minutes.
Australia briefly fought back with a try from substitute Tate McDermott in the 70th minute, but it was too little, too late. Argentina piled on the points in the final stages of the match, with fullback Juan Cruz Mallia scoring twice in quick succession in the 72nd and 75th minutes. Oviedo grabbed his second try of the match in the 77th minute, and Lucio Cinti put the finishing touches on the rout with a try one minute past the full-time siren.
The second half saw Argentina take control of the game and never look back. Juan Martin Gonzalez crossed the line in the 48th minute after sustained pressure from the Pumas pack, giving them the lead for the first time. Matera added another try in the 57th minute, showing his immense strength to power over. Tomas Albornoz then added a penalty goal in the 63rd minute, extending Argentina's lead before Joaquin Oviedo stormed over for a try just a minute later.
In a remarkable turnaround, Argentina demolish Australia by 40 points in Santa Fe after trailing by 3 points at half-time. The first half had been a tightly contested battle, with both teams exchanging blows. Australia opened the scoring with a Ben Donaldson penalty in the 6th minute before Carlo Tizzano burrowed over for a try in the 15th minute. Argentina responded swiftly, with Mateo Carreras scoring after a powerful charge from Pablo Matera. Captain Julian Montoya celebrated his 100th Test match with a crucial try in the 38th minute, bringing Argentina to within three points at the break.
