It was a tough evening for the Cowboys after they were starved of ball through the Dolphins hard-running and their own poor handling. Robert Derby had a mixed night as he churned out a team-high 155m but made a handful of errors on the wing. Brenton Baira's (86m) inclusion in the second half provided some spark as he made a clean break in the lead up to Derby's try but the highlights were all too fleeting for North Queensland who were comfortably beaten on the night.

The Dolphins laid a strong foundation in the middle as Ryan Jackson and Josh Allen churned through 288m from 32 tireless runs. Aublix Tawha was a standout on the edge with 204m and five tackle busts in a try-scoring display, while James Walsh ran with plenty of vigour and was rewarded with a late try. Kurt Donoghoe kept the defence on high alert with several threatening incisions into the line and he laid on two nice try assists.

The Dolphins were dominant from start to finish as they ran in nine tries to two to demolish the Cowboys 8-50 in Cairns. Leading 4-34 at halftime, the Dolphins ensured there would be no let up despite a large change in personnel to start the second half when LJ Nonu completed his hat-trick in the 49th minute. Robert Derby pegged a try back for the Cowboys following some nice lead up play by Dane Aukafolau and Brenton Baira but it was to be short-lived as the Dolphins restored order. Mason Teague received a gift when he scored after Robert Derby spilt a bomb in the 63rd minute before James Walsh added another try to complete the rout.

Quai-Ward takes another run over his 40m before the Dolphins swing it right to Lipp who keeps the ball alive to Stevanovic who spills it forward in contact. The Cowboys come away through Paulo who surges back towards halfway as the siren goes for fulltime.

Lenoy Sam takes it over his 40m on the right before Brown is cut down 45m out on the fourth. RIvett kicks ahead to Lipp who sends Quai-Ward back over his 20m.

Quai-Ward and Jackson take runs inside 40m before James bombs to Baira who brings it back 13m out from his line.

The Cowboys work it up to halfway before Burns puts in a chip over the top that is defused by Marshall on his 20m.

The Dolphins hammer away from close range before Stevanovic puts in a heavy grubber to the right that just rolls dead despite a good chase by Garton. North Queensland with the 20m restart.
