Melbourne City found a way today. They toiled hard in the first half for no rewards, but it was the strike of Andrew Nabbout that was the difference. Kuen was outstanding creating chances down the middle and the left flank, while Ugarkovic was involved in almost everything through the middle. They did pick up a couple of serious injury concerns this evening with both Tilio and Nabbout leaving the field with leg injuries. They head to Perth to take on the Glory on Sunday evening.

The wait goes on for Western United as they continue to search for their first win of the season. Ibusuki tried his hardest up front, while Danzaki and Thurgate created opportunities through the middle. Shamoon was a bright spark on the overlap up the flanks. They will look for their first win on Saturday away to Adelaide United.

So Melbourne City hang on and come away with an important bounce back win after disappointment last weekend. They hit the lead early in the second half thanks to a wonderful play that led to Andrew Nabbout netting from close range and then never looked like giving it up. Western United fought hard towards the end but weren't able to come close to scoring in that second half.

City soak up more time from the goal kick as Beach sends it forward. Walatee comes through the middle and wins the free kick as he is dragged down by Ugarkovic 20 metres outside the box. Pasquali floats it in towards the right edge of the box but it is over the top and finds the byline! That will do it! City hang on!

SHOT! City switch it up the left with Kuen! Over the head of Politidis and he can't bring it in before it finds the touch line. United win a free kick coming up the right as Walatee goes to ground in the contact with Politidis. United drive it towards the area! Ibusuki goes up but it rolls away for Shamoon near the left touch! It is driven back across the six yard box! Ibusuki connects on the rise but heads it well over the bar!

Danzaki with the little one touch nudge over the top almost falling for Walatee at the top of the box! Ugarkovic is well positioned and is able to clear it off the right boot! Back with United as they send another ball towards the area! Hacked away by Leckie this time!

City push forward up the right as Dunbar has some space. Back for Cohen near the top of the box but there are a stack of United defenders there and they are able to clear and counter up the right with Walatee! Atkinson goes for safety first and clears to the touch line.

Five minutes for United to pull something out of the fire. They win a corner up the right edge which they take quickly! Walatee floats a ball towards the back post! Good defence from Leckie as he uses the body to protect the ball in front of Botic and win the clearing kick!
