Scotland have pulled off a dramatic late victory over Poland to keep their hopes of surival in League A alive. Make sure you join us again on Tribe tomorrow for more UEFA Nations League action, with Germany's visit to Hungary being the highlight. It's been a pleasure bringing you all the action from Warsaw tonight. For now, Harrison Ryburn signing out.
Poland, in contrast, backed up previous efforts by falling apart defensively again. They created 19 shots and put together a number of big opportunities, but lacked a clinical touch in front of goal from the likes of Swiderski, Zalewski, or Syzmanski. Piatkowski's stunning goal was due reward for all the pressure they had exerted on the visitors since falling behind, but they were guilty of falling asleep and shutting up shop in the closing stages. One lapse of concentration led to Robertson's winner, and Michal Probierz could be seen storming off into the dressing room straight after the final whistle. Poland drop down into League B as a result, conceding in all of their six League A matches this season, and losing both of their final two matches in this window.
Just like prior performances against Portugal and Croatia, the visitors were also forced to scramble defensively, but Souttar come up with a crucial goal-line clearance at the start of the second half, and Gordon pulled off another set of tremendous saves. It truly was an effort of great heart and spirit. Scotland conclude their campaign with confidence sky high as a result, and focus now turns to preserving their place at the top level in a relegation play-off next March.
Another night to celebrate for Scotland, who have finished their inaugral Nations League A campaign with seven points from their final three games. At times they were cast onto the back foot, but it was the early goal that gave them the confidence to get a result tonight, and they played their part in a thoroughly open and entertaining affair for long stages. 19-year old Ben Doak was a standout down the right flank, and his pace and energy continually got the Scots moving forward. He single-handedly created a number of opportunities, and Steve Clarke's men were unlucky not to score more than two, striking the woodowork twice with Gilmour and McTominay in the first half. A draw was a fair result given the array of chances that both teams created, but Robertson came to the rescue in injury-time, stealing victory in dramatic fashion.
Fulltime in Warsaw and Scotland have pulled off another great escape, to claim victory over Poland and avoid automatic relegation down to League B. It's another tremendous result for Steve Clarke's men, making it back-to-back League A victories to finish their campaign. John McGinn put the visitors ahead inside the first three minutes of the contest, before the Poles pulled it back with a bullet of a long-range strike from Kamil Piatkowski. The contest appeared to be meandering towards a draw in the closing stages as such, but Andy Robertson, the Scotland captain, had other ideas, popping up with a dramatic late winner in injury-time to steal his nation's first ever competitive victory over Poland. The result means it is the hosts who will drop down to the second tier of the UEFA Nations League instead, whilst Scotland will play out a relegation play-off in March next year.
90+5'
McGinn picks up a yellow card in midfield for a lazy foul, but he won't care, as the final whistle sounds moments later for a brilliant Scottish victory.
