That wraps up our coverage for this game. Thanks for joining us here at Tribe. There’s more football action coming up over the weekend, and I’ll see you then. Until then, this is Sanil Karan signing off.
Chelsea extended their impressive run to eight consecutive wins and remain unbeaten in eleven games across all competitions with this comfortable victory. It was not the result Shamrock Rovers were hoping for, but their strong performances earlier in the league phase have secured their place into the next round. They will now go into the play-offs as one of the seeded teams, giving them a solid foundation to build on for the knockout rounds.
With the game already decided, Chelsea slowed the tempo down in the second half. By the hour mark, they extended their lead with an impressive strike from Marc Cucurella, who hit a crisp effort into the bottom left corner off the post. Substitute Joao Felix had a couple of chances to add more goals, but his efforts went wide before being denied by Pohls. Ultimately, Chelsea maintained their dominance, managing the game with ease as they wound down the clock to top the Conference League table.
Chelsea’s impressive Premier League form has surprised many, sitting second behind Liverpool, but their dominance in the Europa Conference League was always expected. Five wins from their five matches prior to this clash were par for the course. Mykhaylo Mudryk’s recent failed drugs test slightly dampened the mood at Stamford Bridge, but the Blues were in a goalscoring mood in the first half here. After taking some time to warm up, Chelsea were gifted the opener when Darragh Burns’ header towards goal allowed Marc Guiu to score into an empty net. Shamrock Rovers equalized through Markus Poom’s stunning volley, but they shot themselves in the foot again soon after. Daniel Cleary’s underhit back pass was intercepted by Guiu, who rounded Pohls and finished from a tight angle. Before the halftime whistle, Dewsbury-Hall added a third and Guiu completed his hat-trick with a header from Noni Madueke’s cross, putting Chelsea firmly in control going into the break.
