ARSENAL TEAM NEWS: Mikel Arteta also makes four alterations to the side that won 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest last time out. Striker Kai Havertz comes back in alongside Thomas Partey - scorer off the bench at the weekend - Declan Rice and Gabriel Martinelli. The four who make way - Jorginho, Mikel Merino, Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Jesus - are all named on the bench. 

Following a near-perfect weekend for both teams, attention now turns to matters of a European nature. Under Ruben Amorim, the Portuguese side started their Champions League campaign in fine fettle, picking up 10 points from a possible 12. That run included a remarkable 4-1 triumph over Manchester City at this very ground, in what was a fitting farewell for Amorim in his final home game before departing for Old Trafford. A six-goal thrashing of fourth-tier Amarante in the Taca de Portugal saw Amorim's successor Joao Pereira enjoy a dream start at the helm, but tonight will be a far sterner test. Mikel Arteta's Gunners haven't been at their best this season but remain well-placed to secure a top-eight berth in this competition. A difficult away game awaits, but as Arteta admitted pre-match, his side will need to "make a statement" tonight to leave with three points to their name. 

ARSENAL DOUBLE THEIR LEAD! The Gunners' start in Lisbon just keeps getting better and better! Partey scoops a pass over the top of Sporting wing-back Araujo and Saka latches onto it, reacting quickest to the pass and catching his man a yard or two out of position. Israel rushes off his line to try and close down the angle, but Saka gets to the ball ahead of him and pokes it across the face of the six-yard box to provide Kai Havertz with a tap-in. That's a 100th career goal at club level for the German!

Fresh legs for Arsenal - and more minutes for talented 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri. He enters the fray alongside Oleksandr Zinchenko, with Riccardo Calafiori and Martin Odegaard given a rest for the final few minutes. Sporting have made a change too, with Conrad Harder replacing Hidemasa Morita.

ARSENAL LEAD! A dream start for the Gunners! After some quick interplay down the right, Timber receives possession and sends in a delicious low cross from level with the penalty area. It rolls between Israel and his defenders, running all the way through for Gabriel Martinelli who marks his return to the XI with the easiest of tap-ins from close range. There's a brief VAR check for a potential offside in the build-up, but the goal stands!

Odegaard tries to unpick the lock, as he so often does. The Norwegian playmaker skips inside from the right, spots the inside run of Martinelli and tries to pick him out with a scooped ball over the top. On this occasion, the pass carries too much weight and bounces to safety. 

A cloud of smoke hanging over the pitch, no doubt as a result of the fireworks from a minute or two ago. In the meantime, Gyokeres makes headway down the Sporting right and looks to angle a pass inside for a team-mate, but Edwards shows very little desire to offer his support and is beaten to the loose ball by an Arsenal defender.

GOOD SAVE! Araujo debates whether to cross from the left and instead feeds Edwards, who offered his support. The former Tottenham Hotspur youngster almost catches Raya out with a cheeky cross towards the near post, with the Gunners goalkeeper forced to react quickly and push it behind. 

A good spell of possession now for Sporting. Given the start they've made, you can hardly blame the hosts for wanting to get their foot on the ball a little bit. After a poor start, they've slowly grown into this contest.

CHANCE! Lovely, incisive build-up! Trincao finds Gyokeres, who in-turn lays the ball off for Edwards with his back to goal. Space opens up for a shot near the edge of the box, but the ex-Spurs man snatches at the chance and guides a weak-footed effort over the bar.

A huge roar greets Trincao as he battles to win possession back inside the Arsenal half. Finally, some desire to try and put pressure on the Gunners. 

Whistles around the ground as Raya takes his time standing over a goal-kick. The referee deems it to be timewasting and books the Arsenal goalkeeper.

CHANCE! Good defending to deny Sporting! Very nearly one wing-back to another as Quenda shapes inside and whips a deep, left-footed cross in the direction of Araujo. He watches the flight of it well but is beaten to the punch by Timber, who puts it behind for a corner.

OFF THE POST! Just like that, Gyokeres bursts into life and almost pulls one back for Sporting! He uses his strength to hold off Kiwior, shows pace to race beyond him and enter the box then very nearly applies the finishing touch, driving a shot goalwards and crashing it against the inside of Raya's near post. 

REMARKABLE! THREE FOR ARSENAL! The visitors extend their lead, with what proves to be the final act of the first half! It's a set-piece which ends up being Sporting's undoing this time around as Rice curls a dangerous corner into the mix from the left. Gabriel makes his run late from near the penalty spot and is left unchallenged to meet the delivery and powerfully guide a header beyond the stranded Israel from close range. Criminal defending, emphatic finish! 

Martinelli tries to drive into the final third for his side as Arsenal hunt a third. Credit to Quenda, who stands his ground well then sticks in a well-timed boot to stop the Brazilian wide man in his tracks. 

Extraordinary scenes as a flurry of fireworks go off directly behind Raya's goal. The referee takes a couple of looks as he weighs up whether to pause proceedings, but he decides to allow things to continue. 

Morita is afforded space inside the Arsenal half to lift his head and look for options. The ball is sprayed out towards the left touchline but ends up being a fraction too high for Araujo, who keeps the ball in play well on the stretch but can do nothing but nod it inside to a waiting Arsenal defender.

Beyond the hour mark we go. It's an old cliché, but the next goal will be oh-so-crucial. Should it go Arsenal's way, the atmosphere will quickly deflate inside the Estádio José Alvalade. Another for Sporting would really set up a grandstand final quarter. 

Mikel Arteta barks instructions from the sidelines, but he'll be delighted by the way his side have started this evening. Sporting have barely been able to escape their own half, and right now there's more defending to do. 

NO MISTAKE! Ice in the veins from Bukayo Saka! He steps up from 12 yards out and guides his penalty beautifully into the bottom right corner, out of the reach of Israel who dived the right way. Silence inside the Estádio José Alvalade, minus Arsenal's travelling contingent. Their three-goal lead is restored!

A fifth change for Arsenal. Gabriel, who dropped to his haunches momentarily a few moments ago, is replaced by Jakub Kiwior. 

Now it's Arsenal who can't seem to get their foot on the ball for any prolonged period of time. A total role reversal in Lisbon, with Sporting coming on really strongly now as they look to find a route back into this game. 

And there goes the half-time whistle in Lisbon! Few would've seen this coming. In a post-Ruben Amorim world, things haven't been too rosy for Sporting, who find themselves three behind at the interval after a polished and clinical first-half performance from Arsenal. Their scorers were Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, and then Gabriel on the stroke of half-time. The Gunners have dominated and look well-positioned to add to their tally, unless the hosts can change things drastically at the break. Sporting have been out-worked, out-manoeuvred and outclassed at times - is there any way back for them from here?

Good evening, and welcome to Tribe's live coverage of the UEFA Champions League! Tonight's action comes from the Estádio José Alvalade as Sporting host Premier League side Arsenal. My name is James Messenger, and I'll be guiding you through all the action as it happens. 

CHANCE! Almost a sixth! Trossard bursts into the Sporting box and receives a cute ball over the top. He makes it to the byline and tries to pull one back for Havertz, but the German is a little over-eager to get there and the low cross goes behind him. 

How's Sporting's response to going behind? Not too bad at all. Araujo takes up an advanced position down the left and sends in a low cross which is missed by the first Arsenal defender. Fortunately for the Gunners, Quenda is caught on his heels at the far post and can't react to the loose ball in time. Had he done so, Raya could've been in real trouble. 

GOOD SAVE! Just like that, Sporting spring into life! Araujo skips across the face of the pitch and uses inside runners as a decoy before playing a pass right for Quenda. Up against Rice, the 17-year-old wide man works space on his right foot then tries his luck from just outside the box, forcing Raya to help it on its way over the bar. 

GOOD SAVE! Raya claims the resultant free-kick and immediately sets his side away on a counter-attack. He and the influential Odegaard combine to release Saka, who charges forward and backs Morita into the box, jinks inside onto his left foot then fires a shot towards the near post, forcing Israel into a smart save, low to the ground. 

CHANCE! After a slightly scrappy period of play following a half-cleared Rice corner, the ball breaks for Partey, five yards outside the box. Scorer at the weekend, the Ghanaian drives a low effort goalwards but sends it straight at Israel. 

GREAT SAVE! Nearly a goal back for Sporting! After slowing things down near the right-hand side of the box, Quenda plays the ball inside and it's kept moving in the direction of Hjulmand. He takes a touch on the edge of the area then guides an instinctive shot towards the bottom right corner, but once again Raya is equal to the shot and parries it round the post.

Every time they recover possession, Sporting are hassled and harried into another error. The Portuguese champions are finding it really difficult at the moment. 

CHANCE! A third Arsenal goal seems inevitable at the moment. Odegaard has the freedom of Lisbon to try and prise open the Sporting backline with another well-weighted throughball into the box, but a crucial toe-in denies Havertz a clean sight of goal. 

Workmanlike from Arsenal in these last few minutes. The Gunners are doing their best to take the sting out of the game, denying their hosts any route back into the game. On the whole, it's been a really composed display from Mikel Arteta's men in Lisbon. 

Double change for the home side as we enter the final quarter. Geny Catamo and Daniel Braganca come on to replace Maximiliano Araujo and Marcus Edwards. 

KICK-OFF! Back underway in Lisbon! Somewhat surprisingly, there are no changes to report.

CHANCE! An opening inside 30 seconds for the visitors as Odegaard sneaks in down the right and lifts a dangerous ball towards the far post. Players are back for Sporting and St. Juste makes the rushed clearance. 

GOOD CHANCE! Another near-miss! Odegaard works the ball towards Saka near the right corner of the box and, after cutting inside, his firm drive strikes Havertz of all people in the stomach. The ball still ricochets kindly for the onrushing Rice, who tries his luck from the angle but blazes well off target. 

ARSENAL HAVE FIVE! What a night this is turning into for the Gunners! They exploit an abundance of space in the final third as Merino drives a shot goalwards from the edge of the box. It's too hot to handle for Sporting 'keeper Israel, and on the rebound, Leandro Trossard finds himself in the perfect place to nod home the rebound and mark his brief cameo with a goal!

A brilliant performance on the road from Mikel Arteta's men! Five goals, five different scorers, and three points in the bag. It looked like a potential banana skin on paper, given the unbeaten start Sporting had made to this season's UEFA Champions League group stages before tonight. But in the end, the Portuguese champions were no match for their opponents, who were ruthless when they needed to be and, bar a brief 10-minute spell at the start of the second half, played with swagger and control. Successive wins for the Gunners since the international break, and eight goals scored too. Not a bad night's work in Lisbon - has a corner been turned?

More good early work from Arsenal, Martinelli driving at his man near the left corner of the box. His low cross is cleared away as far as Calafiori, who has time to bring the ball down 25 yards from goal then skews a half-volley well wide of the right-hand post. 

Arsenal respond with two alterations of their own. Leandro Trossard and Mikel Merino enter the fray, in place of Gabriel Martinelli and Declan Rice.

In Europe right now, one man stands above all else: Viktor Gyokeres. The Sporting striker can't be kept out of the headlines at the moment and has netted 24 goals in 17 club games this season - three of which came against Manchester City not too long ago. He is likely to attract a whole host of Europe's elite in the summer - Arsenal included. And with the 26-year-old in such rich form, it'll take a real effort to keep him quiet in Lisbon this evening. 

CHANCE! A few half-shouts of a goal from the Sporting supporters as Gyokeres receives possession with his back to goal, turns inside the box and shoots. His effort takes a big deflection and almost loops over Raya, who back-pedals towards his own goal and stops it from crossing the line. 

A deeper corner from the hosts, but they can't make this one count and Arsenal clear their lines.

A couple of late changes for the home side as Joao Simoes and Matheus Reis replace Francisco Trincao and Goncalo Inacio. 

WOW! After a lengthy run-up, Gyokeres hammers the ball goalwards and blazes one miles over the bar!

CLOSE! Superb hold-up play from Gyokeres, who holds off the attention of Saliba, turns inside the Arsenal half then plays the ball further infield for Trincao. He ignores the options ahead of him and pulls the trigger from 20 yards out, his deflected strike looping over Raya and narrowly over the bar. 

GOOD SAVE! Maybe there is life in Sporting after all! They carve out their best chance of the game inside 90 seconds of the restart as Morita receives possession on the edge of the box. He guides an incisive effort towards the bottom right corner and Raya reacts smartly to push it round the post.

PENALTY TO ARSENAL! Out of nowhere, Odegaard receives Havertz's lay-off and gets a bit of fortune evading the first challenge as he enters the box. The yellow-carded Diomande lunges in rashly from behind to try and dispossess the Norwegian, who throws himself to the ground. Clear contact, and the referee with no doubts. Saka to take...

ONE BACK FOR SPORTING! They couldn't, could they?! A slightly unorthodox corner from Trincao pays dividends as his low delivery finds Goncalo Inacio, who flicks the ball goalwards near the corner of the six-yard box and generates just enough power to beat Raya, who gets a glove to the ball but turns it into his inside netting. Game on again in Lisbon!

Remarkable from Diomande, who is aggrieved by a decision which goes against him midway inside the Sporting half and talks his way into a booking. A needless show of petulance, and one which will see him walk a tightrope for the remainder of tonight's game. 

SPORTING CP TEAM NEWS: The hosts make four changes following their most recent league outing - a remarkable 4-2 comeback win at Braga in new Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim's final game in charge. One of their returning players - Englishman Marcus Edwards - is no stranger to North London, having started his senior career at Arsenal's fierce rivals Tottenham Hotspur. Defenders Jerry St. Juste and Goncalo Inacio, and midfielder Hidemasa Morita are the others who return to the Portuguese champions' starting XI. 

Gyokeres receives the ball to feet and tries to spin away from Gabriel, who gets far too tight to his man and hauls him down on the edge of the Arsenal box. What a turnaround we're witnessing here!

Arsenal's front three are having an absolute field day, with Odegaard pulling the strings from a little deeper. There's so little pressure on the ball, and it's making things oh-so-comfortable for the visitors as we approach half-time. For Sporting, will there be a tweak in system or personnel? Something needs to change.
