Dominican Republic will face the formidable Nigerians in their final must-win Group game, perhaps hoping that the already-qualified opponent will take the foot off the gas a little - good luck with that! New Zealand will be up against Ecuador at the same time on Tuesday night, looking for the same result to advance. Join us here on Tribe for live commentary of that one. But it's bye for now, I'm Carl Allport hoping you enjoyed that one!
New Zealand played like the team that they are tonight. Front-foot attacking, composed defending and quality all over the park. But for some clinical finishing, that could have been a very comfortable win. Sometimes, that's just the way it goes. Saxon was good at both ends of the park, some jobsworth at Fifa dissecting the New Zealand goal to find a reason to take it off the kiwi and cruelly award the OG to Mercedes. For the record, I reckon Saxon got to it before it crossed the line. Vlok ran the show, Bartlett terrorised Sano for 82 minutes, Jerez was denied a worldie by the crossbar and Eglinton given Player of the Match for her defensive efforts. The Junior Ferns should fancy themselves to advance at the expense of Ecuador if they can repeat that performance.
The Dominican Republic will be the happier side tonight, on the back foot for a long time. Mercedes single-handedly kept them in it and Barker at the other end ran hard and gave them an outlet. The rest of the Dominicans were anonymous in that they did all the unheralded work - running, pressing, tackling, holding up the ball. You have to say they put in a solid shift, every player in a white shirt tonight. And you can't begrudge them that goal and that point in a game where they defended so well as a unit.
And that is that, as the final whistle goes. Eventually, the New Zealand goal was credited to a Mercedes own goal (harsh on her AND Saxon) and, as the kiwis pushed for the second, killer blow, they were caught out by a Dominican set piece, as Brito lashed home from close range. A much better showing from both sides, and they're both still in this tournament, both needing to win their last group games to get through.

Bangalan shoots from just outside the box - she deserves a goal - but it's over the top. Dunn will send it long but there's no team mate there.
90+6'
SAVED!! Curled in beautifully from the free kick on the left by De La Carcova and Campbell saves the day for the visitors with a strong hand just under the crossbar!
90+5'
I spoke too soon, Morgan giving up the free kick near the left corner.
90+4'
Morgan and then Bennett with critical, perfect tackles on the right of defence.
90+3'
Both sides pushing for the winner with tired legs. Sawkins' central pass is picked up by Jimenez and she goes for glory from way, way out. It trickles to Campbell.
