The All Whites have bounced back from their defeat to Mexico, to hold the USA to a draw in one of their best peformances in recent times. Make sure you join us again in October, when they begin their OFC World Cup qualifying campaign against Tahiti in Port Vila. It's been a pleasure bringing you all the action from the TQL Stadium in Cincinnati this afternoon. For now, Harrison Ryburn signing out.
Another frustrating evening in contrast for the USA, who appeared to be on their way to victory when Pulisic put them ahead with twenty minutes to play. The draw means they have now won just one of their last seven international fixtures dating back to June, whilst their winless run also extends to four. The Americans had 66% of the ball and created 17 shots to New Zealand's eight, but were left continually frustrated by their opponents defence. They were also guilty of perhaps being too patient with their build-up play too, and lacked the creative spark to really put the Kiwis away. Pulisic added some spark late on, but they really should have come away with victory after holding a lead into the final moments. With Pochettino arriving for their next set of internationals in October though, it's a result that will probably become meaningless with the new manager in charge.
A really big result for the All Whites this afternoon. They needed a bounce-back performance after their weak effort against Mexico in Pasadena, and Darren Bazeley's men delivered exactly that. Whilst they didn't enjoy as much of the possession, and were again pinned back for long stages, they showed a lot more fight and frusrated the USA for over an hour with their midfield block and structure at the back. They showed a lot more on the counter-attack too, and could have scored earlier if not for a big save from Turner against Just. Ultimately the Waine goal was a reward for their desire to continue to fight on, adopting an attacking mentality when it could have been easy to go into their shells in the final twenty. That should give Darren Bazeley and his men a great deal of confidence going forward, and they'll be hoping to be back on American soil in two years time for the 2026 World Cup.
Fulltime in Cincinnati and the All Whites have held the USA to a very credible draw. The Americans dictated for large stages and took the lead after banging on the door for over an hour, when Christian Pulisic scored off the bench. Bazeley's men found a response in the final twenty though, and stole a fortuitous late equaliser through Ben Waine to hold their hosts to a stalemate. It's a huge result for the All Whites against a side ranked inside the world's top 20, and a much improved effort on the one they displayed against Mexico.
90+10'
The hosts contiue to push, and we're now into the referee's own time. A long ball is floated up towards the top of the box, where Cowell takes it down and advances up the right flank. Cacace makes a strong tackle though, and New Zealand clear away downfield.
90+8'
SHOT! Bell concedes a foul on Cowell on halfway, and the hosts play it short for Fossey. They look to create one last chance as they build forward, and it comes back for Fossey to take aim at goal from the top of the box. He hits it on his right foot, but he can't quite keep the ball down and it flies over the top for a goal kick.
90+7'
Richards sends a hopeful long ball for Cowell straight over the byline, and Crocombe gets a goal kick. He encourages his teammates to get forward again, and sends the ball long over halfway.
90+6'
The USA look rattled here, and all the momentum is with the All Whites deep into stoppage time. Cowell concedes a free kick on halfway, and the set-piece is launched long towards the back post for New Zealand. It doesn't find a teammate though, and Turner gets up to collect.
90+5'
A period of possession here for the All Whites, as they set up inside the attacking half. Tuiloma lifts a delivery into the middle off the right flank, but it doesn't fall for Waine again and Richards gets in the way to clear.
